can the same ballast be used for HPS & MH bulbs (of the same wattage)

I have a 400w HPS and was wondering if i'd be able to buy a 400w MH bulb and just use the same (400w) ballast?

the plan is to switch bulbs every other day so the plants get a varied spectrum, but i can't afford another ballast just for a MH light...

It will say on your ballast most of the time, i have one that does both.
Instead of changing the bulb every day, go and buy a conversion bulb, it will work with your hps ballast and is a mix of both spectrums.

Goggle 4oow conversion bulbs

Hope this helps

Sunmaster warm deluxe are good bulbs but check out 1000bulbs.com they have an endless supply (for dirt cheap) of conversion bulbs and the like

i've got a grolux dual spectrum hps. is that the sort of thing you mean?

i was wanting the MH because they've got more UV output - should help create more thc at the end of flowering...

I have a 400 watt hps ballast that ive been using a 400 watt mh light in for the last month and everything is still working. No bad bulb, no fires. The best thing to do would be buy a conversion bulb like others have said but depending on your ballast a mh bulb should work.

Also i dont recommend switching your bulbs out just so you get both light spectrums. That would be way too many bulb changes. IF you really feel like you need both spectrum just get a bulb that has both. The reason i say this is because in my setup i have 3 lights. 2 hps and 1 mh. I shit you not the plants under the mh look almost identical to the plants under the hps, and the plants that are getting both spectrum dont look any better than the plants that are only getting one. No matter what light you use, your going to get great buds as long as you know what you are doing and take good care of them. I say save your money and just keep using what you are using.

1000bulbs.com 5 bucks for an hps don't get much cheaper. But yeah u can put a mh into an hps but this is only in some cases depending on the ballast I believe the only difference is a capacitor? I would go the safe route personally but I like coming home to a home not ashes lol
