Walk in closet first grow help!

Hey im new to here and would appreciate any ideas or suggestions on getting my grow up and running. Should I use hydro or soil? I am limited to space so what the best enclosure? A tent? A grow box? I would like to maximize the space as best as possible to get the best yields. Also if anyone has some ideas for a good indoor strain to work with. The walkin closet is right next to the bathroom and also connects to my bedroom. The closet has 2 sides im still thinking about whether im going to use 1 side or both. The measurements on the 1 side is 46 inches wide, 68 inches high (until shelf), additional 16 inches from shelf to ceiling, and 24 inches deep. I think the main point to drive home is keep it simple. I have had amazing results with a 250W bulb in a small closet soil grow.

In your case I would make a simple wood frame (one for each side, flower and veg) and cover the whole thing with visqueen plastic. Make a large swinging door in the front out of cardboard and cover the inside with visqueen again. The plastic is white on the inside (great for reflection) and black on the outside so no light penetrates through to the outside. George Cervantes does something similar in his first dvd but on a larger scale. You can mount the light, fans and electric panel on the frame.

I'd go with soil as it is the easiest/most forgiving grow medium, and according to the guys at greenhouseseed company, produces the best tasting bud. I have had great success with the strains NY City Diesel & Master Kush.

Thanks for the input. Nice plants you have there. I think I will go with soil. I guess next step is figuring out air control. The grow tent looks so easy would it work the same?

I too use a closet about the size you have....did soil and put'em under 4' floros x 8....read all you can and don't try to reinvent this simple process of growing your own beans..........I'm just finishing up some lowryder 2 that are gonna be my christmas cheer!
One thing I did wrong for sure....I was over-ambitious and started over 20 plants....my closet became a jungle....I had to move some to another location ....so start with only a few.......like I will next time!
Odor control is simple too....like I said....read a lot.....riu is full of simple and cheap treatments for any prob you run into.

thanks alot . ya i was think of starting with 5 plants they would have about 5 ft to grow. Im doing a lot of research on lighting and cant seem to find the best solution. LED? CFL? HPS? And you said you use floros? What are the differences and what would you guys recomend for my situation.

If you can find a tent that suits your dimensions, go for it. LED's are pretty much useless for their price, the guy who owns the hydro store near me doesn't even have them turned on at his display cause they're so shitty lol. I say HPS all the way, you can always get a Metal Halide convo bulb if you wanted to veg in the same area.

Go for the hid lights You can get a nice 400 watt hps and get a conversion mh bulb that will work with the same ballast. Veg with the mh and flower with the hps. Some like dirt but before you decide check out the bubbleponic tutorial here you just might change your mind ! I'm just about done vegging my first hydro grow AK48 . Should have some nice bud by mid jan.! Good luck with whatever you decide on..Make sure you read up on everything first..saves a lot of time and money !!

nice well hps it is then lol is it overkill to get the 400 watt MH / HPS or should i go with less watts (small growing space aprox 4 ft wid 5.5ft tall and 2 ft deep.

hid is the way to go. 400 watt is what you want for that area but temperature will be an issue. you will need a cool tube or vented hood and 6in in line fan to cool light and a separate vent fan for the grow area its self. the next step down would be floros. use 65k for veg and switch bulbs to 27k for flowering. i do hydro, my boys do dirt. theirs may taste better but i get more bud and stronger bud. i also get 2 grows in for every 1 grow they do. by the end of year i get 4 times the amount. dirt is basically plant and forget compared to hydro. every thing i have besides the lights i got at Lowe's or home depot. i made everything i needed. learned how on this site and Dr greens i grow weed video on you tube. once you figure it out its easy. if it were not for the fact my plants drink the water and the water levels drop because they don't put it back i need to replace it with fresh water every 5 days it would run for ever like this sentence.

I've got a 400 w hps in my furnace closet,only barly fits the light hood between the walls !! And the temp is in the low to mid 70s. I only have a 4" inline fan vented through the ceiling into the attic. I can barly fit my light hhod between the walls its very tight but my plants are drinking a gallon a day now and are really looking good. One more wk than flower time...The diff between a 250 and a 400 is measured in grams !!
