Quick question

I have a 400 watt mh light sitting around and no way to use it. My question is, is there anyway to plug this light in without a ballast and reflector? I read something about mogul base adapters but not sure what to do? Anyone know a way to get it up and running asap?

NO WAY to run that light w/out a ballast
a mogul base adapter is the type of socket the light fits into.
an electric supply house will sell a replacement ballast (&capasitor) for under $100. you can make a reflector.

Thanks you answered my question perfectly, just not what I wanted to hear :p
Lol, I read that the mogul base light adapter wouldn't let power surges through the light though and wouldnt that be the same as what the ballast does essentially?

I'm willing to make a bet everyone here started off with a small set up and has now spent tons of cash and expanded set up significantly :p
I started off with two 100 watt cfls and a 2'x1.5'x2.5' closet.
Now I have an aerogarden, 30gal rubbermaid diy aerogarden and a closet(7'x3.5'x9) full of organics :p

a mogul base is just a socket the light screws into. 400 watt and up are larger than a standard socket. the ballast kicks voltage up. MH &HPS bulbs run at around 600 volts.
