Hey ToWeRdog, no problem with the information, your intentions were right on, I was just lucky enough to have done the research so I knew where to look. But your karma is definitely good on this one, look how fast it came back to you in the form of good information!
But, the way I started was I found the bubbleponics system online, then I happened onto this forum and found Roseman's bubbleponics tutorial. He started it on 8/29 so he's two months ahead of me. He's been incredibly thorough and all of the information he's given has been golden, I've been able to verify or confirm most and the real proof are the plants in his grow. That's why I'm trying to follow as closely as possible, within my limitations and needs of course.
So please keep up with the comments, I've really appreciated them. I have a bit of experience having grown outdoors for years. But this is my first hydroponic set up and so far I'm convinced this is the way to go. Just keep reading and verify everything you read!
I'm getting ready to do my next drain and replenish with new nutes today. I'll get some pics together for the thread then.

Hey c5rftw, thanks for the compliment. Glad to have you looking in.
I have one question for you already, I can't find any information on topping clones from a mature female. I'd like to top my plants but all of mine are from mature females and as such are only putting out 1 leaf per node. I know just what to do when the plant is putting out 2 leaves per node, but I haven't been able to figure this one out. If you have any information I'd really appreciate it.

Got all my gear and I build. Any quick hits or tips are appreciated I will be starting 2 Cheese in DWC Buckateer and 4 White Widow in Bubbleponics all from SH.
I am convinced that I could have put all this together for a lot cheaper than I paid, but I gained really a education in progress frim SH as well to apply to bigger and better systems. I have outdoor experience which is mainly watching out for pests and praying for good weather. I have really researched and I know I will have many successful grows as long as I can get good seed.

Hey Ghost, glad to hear you got it together. You seem to be in the same position as I am, I bought the system, learned a bunch then plan to move on to bigger and better things.
I'm getting ready to put my plants into 3- 5 gal. buckets. Exactly how I'll set them up is a question for tomorrow, but I'm heading out to pick them up now. I think the SH system is great for startup, SOG would work perfect in this! But from what I've heard all of the advantage is realized in the first two weeks. So it only makes sense to me that once they are started move them to a bigger space if that's what you're looking for, and that's what I'm looking for. Later!

Honestly I plan to let all 4 White Widow go the distance in the 8 gallon Bubbleponics chamber I plan to veg for 3 to 4 weeks then flower my 60/40 hybrid (indica dominant) White Widow until she's ripe for the picking or cutting.
I know it will be crowded but that's why I chose to do 4 plants instead of 6 plants.
The buckateer is I think going to be very nice indeed with the cheese. 2 Medium to Large plants in one 5 gallon bucket system is ideal IMO.

Well here we are at day 17. Everything seems to be going as planned. Today I just finished a drain and replenish with a nute change. Last week I added 2 tsp at the replenish and then 2 more tsp every other day until I h1t full strength. So they were growing full strength (less what they had used of course) from Saturday to today. They seem to have suffered no ill effects from the nute concentration so today with the fill I put 1/2 grow and 1/2 micro nutes. I'll add the rest Thursday and hopefully they don't burn.
These plants are doing great, they have grown 2" in the last three days so I'm getting pretty good growth. They are plenty full too as you can see. That's why I'm going to move them soon. The one at front middle is a northern light and the one at front right is a sour diesel. Funny but those two look almost identical, I almost wonder if the dispensary got the strains mixed up.
I've purchased (3) 5 gal buckets and I plan to put 2 plants in each. I'm hoping this will be sufficient room since I can then split the buckets as far apart as my grow space will allow me. I picked up the buckets, tops and have an additional air pump and need to pick up three 4" round air stones since the 12" stones won't work very well in the buckets. I'll use those for the next start I'm planning in a week and a half. I hope to get these plants moved into their new homes by Thursday at the latest. Since I don't have to pump water to the pots any longer that will make the buckets much simpler. I'll just try to provide lots of bubbles and my roots look very strong and long.

White Widows, I hope to find a few of those for my next grow. From what I've seen, and tasted they are fantastic!
I wonder if certain strains grow better in different locations of the country when you are growing inside? I'm at a pretty good altitude and I know it would be different if I were growning outside.

looking nice man,yea i just got done building another diy bubblponics ,i have 1 original,2,18 gallon totes,one with 3 8in pots an the other has 6, 3 1/2in pots all of them have 2 to 4 airstones each,its soo much cheaper to make em yourself ,i pay 4 bucks for the tote 20 for air pumps tubing & airstones ,3 bucks on netpots so 30 bucks or so on a bad ass bubbler,o i would jus fim your clones,i have much better luck with fimming...here a pic to help ya...the choice is yours

Okay, so my understanding of "fimming" is trimming all of the tops on all of the branches at a certain point, correct? This is a technique described by Roseman so it's probably the way to go. I'm a little insecure of cutting all the branches, but it seems as though you gotta do some serious cutting to get the job done right. When I re-pot my bonsai I generally cut two thirds of the roots and then tie it down, they usually go crazy with new growth rigth after. So I'm thinking the fimming is the way to go. More research for tonight!

Well, here's a development. I'm wondering if I put too many nutes in with the water change yesterday, I've got a little yellowing on the edges of a couple leaves on one of my plants. This happens to be the best Northern Light in the bunch too!
The rest look perfectly healthy, and even the one with the burn (?) looks healthy otherwise. Bottom line though, they grew an inch last night.
Okay, time to run to the pet shop for those 4" round air stones for the 5 gal buckets I bought yesterday. I should probably move the plants tomorrow since I got such good growth yesterday, don't mess with a good thing kind of thing.
Check out the new pics, what do you think caused the burn?

Yeah it's definitely the beginning of nute burn. I would back off the nutes just a touch and it shouldn't get any worse. Beautiful dogs by the way!

Thanks for the note, I had a feeling...
I drained 3 gals and replenished, that should halve the nute level and drop it back into the good range. I am going to move them tomorrow, but figured what the heck, they'll appreciate the extra air on the roots no matter, probably get the same growth even with less nutes. As much of a growth spurt as they have after draining I'd like to get set up to drain every day, but only replace the nutes each week. Gotta get myself a TDS meter.
Thanks for the love for my pups, neither is around any more, but my current pups are helping to make a wonderful home for me! I can't understand how people can live without the love of a dog in their life.

Nice grow FryingPanFlyer the plants look healthy. Do you have a fan blowing on the canopy? The burned tip on the one plant could be from light heat stress how it is curling. Looks amazing otherwise doing a great job.

Well that was another possibility since they did grow a bunch last night and it was only on the two biggest plants.
I raised the lamp a good 4" right away, it was quite close. I do have an oscillating fan blowing the canopy, but I think the light was too close anyway.

I see no over nute issues... keep in mind that if you have 6 gallons with a PPM of 450-550(which your plants should have right), then you will have 900-1100 ppm when it uses 3 gal... so it is still possible that the can become over nuted... but if they start to show burn just flush right away if it happens within a couple days.. if it show burn more than a week or so after then its nothing to worry about. as you should be flushing within a couple days anyway...

You know, I think you're right. Checking in on them this morning I see where they grew very nicely last night and no new evidence of any type of burn. The two plants that have the leaf burn both had a good days growth, not as much as yesterday, but still at least a half inch.
Therefore I'm postulating that there was no nute burn, it was simply a matter of the lights being too close. Yesterday I reduced the concentration of nutes by draining half the res. and refilling with straight water. I also raised the lamp by 4" - 6".
So today I'm going to add back in the rest of the nutes. Hell, I added half at first, reduced that to a concentration of approx. 1/4 nutes by draining and refilling. So if I add the other half of the nutes I'll be at 75% concentration. Last week I was at 100% after 4 days so I'm feeling this won't hurt me any.
But that will have to wait until after I feed the dogs and get some breakfast for myself. I'll be back with an update.

Okay, today I drained and replenished again. Only this time I reused the water from the res. and added the rest of the nutes from my aborted 1/2 dose from Tuesday. So now I should be in the range of 3/4 nute concentration in the res. I'm feeling pretty good about this level considering the size of my plants and their current rate of growth.
They are drinking about a 1/2 gal of water each day. The temps in my closet seem to be riding in the 70 - 75 range and everything looks pretty copacetic. Here's today's pics. Not much change from yesterday but you get a good look at the burned leaves. I'm very convinced there is no problem with the nute concentration due to last night's growth and the fact that the two plants with the burned leaves are growing the fastest. Fast growth to me indicates a temporary problem, this time being the proximity of the light, rather than something systemic such as nute burn.
