Indoor Grow 2x600 ? and opinions Plz

Hello all,

Just started my first indoor grow and am looking for opinions/criticism.

The table for the floor is 4x8 in 8x8 space covered by 2 600W lights. Will fill the table in a few days. Plants are from a crop i let go to seed this summer and really liked what it produced no idea on the strains. Maybe once they start flowering people will be able to come up with some ideas.

The plants shown are anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks old from seed had them under fluoros until 2 days ago when i put them under 1 600W.

Anybody run 2 of these ELD hoods in a line? Just wondering how hot the exhaust might get after the second light since i had to ghetto style through cardboard with duct tape and i'm paranoid about fire. Will be firing up the second light soon. So far the second light stays really cool i can hold my hand 1 inch under the glass and it is lukewarm. I have a 4 inch Vortex supplying air.

On the other side of the cardboard i made the screen 2 layers thicker so you can't see the vent pipe unless you are very close to the window and since i have no neighbours and live in the sticks small chance of anybody being close to that window i hope.

The 2 Lumatek ballasts i mounted raised off the floor by 2 inches and the fan blowing on them keeps them at nearly room temperature.

Any advice or opinions is welcome. I still have clean up the room and hang the mylar if your wondering why it looks 1/2 finished

I think you're on the right track! Keep us posted. I am new to indoor growing, so I wish I could give you a good bump. But from what I DO know, looking good!

Actually it's quite the opposite, but here goes:

Is that 4" ducting that you're running through the lights? Because if so, and if you're planning on aircooling those with a 4" fan that moves about 175CFM, I'd have to say you're gonna be having some issues with that.

Obviously depends on the ambient temps in the room and of the air going through the lights, but I'd be surprised if that kept your lights reasonable cool.

Also, the 8x4 footprint is a little large for two 6's, IMHO - you'd either need a mover, add another 6, or get two 1000's to really cover that size table.

Not saying that two 6's won't cover it, but you could cover it much better with one of the aforementioned setups instead.

Also, how many plants are you going to put on the table? Flower at what height? I'm assuming that those beans aren't feminized, so you're just going to flower and pick out the males later?

Good luck to you, and try to be a little more patient when requesting input - it's not always instantaneous.

I think the plants look great. 2 600watt for veg I think is a little too much light. It is true the more light the better but that goes for flowering I would sugguest flore lights for veg or 1 250 - 400watt HID then when you flower put those 600watt hps on those babys. When useing floros for veg it dosent give out heat and save energy and I think you get almost the same results using floros FOR VEG ONLY. I would not flower with FLOROS only vegging but if you can handle the heat and the enegy cost COOL. They really look great thow I wish you the best of luck, and the max of yeild

it all look's so good,2-600 over 4x8 table,is some good coverage,only opinion i will give is to look around for what you want to find out in the thread's,and take it all with a grain of saltgood luck

Yeah it's 4 inch. Unfortunately those hoods don't come with a 6 inch connection. The guy said max lights i could run in a line with those hoods and a 4 inch fan was 2. Will have to see how it goes once i fire up the second light. So far the heat coming out of the first hood is just above room temp. The air the fan is drawing is about 5-6 deg cooler than inside the grow. I had to go for 2x600W because the wiring in this place isn't that great and i don't want to run it at close to max load. Hopefully these will be enough.

Also, how many plants are you going to put on the table? Flower at what height? I'm assuming that those beans aren't feminized, so you're just going to flower and pick out the males later?

I was thinking 18 total and flowering at about 1 foot high but i'm open to suggestions The beans aren't feminized. The plan is to remove any males and pick the strongest female from each strain and stick them in the closet under fluros for cuttings. A little later will order a few different feminized strains for a few more mothers. Have 3 strains going now.

I was thinking 1 600 for veg to but with this setup not sure if i can manage it having to use the table the way it is. And thanks

I always try to take things with a grain of salt Been doing lots of reading here and learning more everyday.

Well noticed today a few of the bigger plants getting droopy so i had a look at the bottom of the pots and saw roots. Pulled them out of the pots and they are rootbound. So right now filling the table with dirt and gettin ready to fire up both lights. Took 2 bales of sunshine mix #4 by the looks of it to fill the table. Will post some pics a bit later....happy smokin!

Got them transplanted last night. In the first pic you can see a few of the bigger ones looking kinda sad they needed more space badly. The rest of the pics are from this morning about 8 hours after transplant.

They look much happier They seem to be liking all that xtra light. Temperature with both lights going is staying right about 80 under the second light. Exhaust after the second light is warm but nowhere close to hot.

Looking good Dradden I like that set up you got there with those lights too good job, if you can deal with the heat your in there keep it up I can't wait to see them grow I want to see in 2 weeks from now how they will be.

Kinda bored right now so thought i would post a few more pics. I think 1 of the little guys was havin some issues with all that light so i made him a little tent out of some nylon screen i had kicking around.

The biggest plants are just rollin up on 3 weeks of veg...can't wait to flip them

What are you going to do with the males? Guessing you're gonna rip them out immediately? Do you have plants to take their place, or is those spots just going to be left "empty" for the duration of flowering?

If the latter, which I'm assuming, I'd take those plants out of the soil bed and into five gallon grow bags so that they can be moved around when males are tossed, as well as allowing you to rotate them every couple of days to ensure all sides of the plant(s) receive adequate lighting.

I'd definitely do it - grow bags are so cheap they're almost free, and you need to be able to move your plants around to ensure adequate lighting - what happens when your plants in the middle start growing more quickly (because they get more light) then the plants on the perimeter, and start blocking the light to the perimeter?

You're propa' fucked, that's what.

Get them into some form of container (I'd recommend grow bags, but lots will work) ASAP - the longer you wait, the harder it's gonna be to get them outta that soil bed.

If you need to, just get some large plastic pots from Home Depot or Lowes - more expensive, but it gets the job done.

Noticed last night that a few of younger plants leaves were "cupping" a bit so raised the light up 4 inches. Seems to have cured the problem.

The oldest plants are now 23 days old. Gonna give them a feeding today of Alaskan fish

Decided to keep them in the table this round. The biggest ones are all on the outside so hopefully i get away with it. If the ones in the middle get to tall maybe i'll tie them over a bit. Will see how it goes.

Really bad idea leaving them in that bed - you see how they're all leaning towards the light already? Imagine what that's gonna look like in a month or two...........that's why you need them to be in individual containers so you can rotate them..................seriously man, I implore you (for your own sake), get them in some containers.

You've got a reasonably nice setup and I'd hate to see it get mucked up by something that's so easy to fix.
