Thanks for the tip! I actually did that with my first grow too, and I planned to do the exact same this time.... The way I do it, is 2 days before harvest, I remove the 'ON' peg from my outlet timer after the lights come on for that day, then let them reach their lights-off time and wait 36 hours before chopping - that's 3 full 12-hour cycles. I think when they realize the light isn't coming on, it signals them to push out any last efforts to pollinate and the buds swell a tiny bit more as a result... I've also heard that others have compared doing this one time and not doing it the next time and not noticing a difference, but I think it's worth a shot regardless. I also think that with the lights off for that extra time, any nutes left in the plant have more time to move down from the stem/leaves into the roots, so it can help for a less 'harsh' smoke in the long run... that's why you should always chop with the HID lights OFF... the light immediately stimulates moisture and nutes to move back up into the plant. I'll just use the regular bathroom lights and it should be fine.

Cheers Bags! Thanks a ton for all your input! I'll have a fresh joint waiting for you when you arrive on the airplane! :blsmoke:

Well, i'm really happy with how everything is looking at this point. The girls have actually thickened up since I gave them their first flushing. Tomorrow evening will be the final flush and then they will get a full week of time to finish up..... or so that was the plan.....lol.

Take a look through this batch of pics I took tonight and give me your opinions... I think they are going to need yet another week after the 30th!! Time will tell, but I see another round of white pistils coming through on almost all of the tops! The smell they're making right now is absolutely INTOXICATING! It's really hard to make the decision to push them ahead another week, but really - I'll keep pushing them ahead as long as they need. I really want to get a flavorful, heavy hitting end-product, so I'm giving them as long as they need!

Enjoy these delicious pics I've taken this evening. I've put the pics all on Photobucket and made a slide-show. Try the link below and let me know if you have any problems with it.... :weed:

Just completed the final flush this evening... there has been a final burst of white hairs in the past 3-4 days since the first flush and it may have changed my mind to push the harvest date back another week... time will tell. Every day they look different so we'll see how they look tomorrow and go from there! The smell is getting really strong right now, so it's risky to have them this way due to an odor problem we have with the setup we have.

I'd like some comments on this decision... in theory, cutting them when there's a few white hairs still will give the bud some more sativa-like effects in the high...correct? Since I have a mixture right now (mostly finished looking but a few tops with some white hairs still), is it a good idea to cut at the end of this week and go for that mixture of effects??

I spent some time tonight as well, and put together a video of my grow-room and an extensive 'top-tour' of my girlz. I used my camera's video feature so it's not super-clear but it did the trick.... ended up to be a 43 MB file which is still currently uploading to photobucket so I'll post the link as soon as it finishes! :leaf:

Hmmm...no comments on my video...?? lol...didn't think it was THAT bad..heh.

Anyways, just logging an update here.... Harvest will definitely be this weekend (Saturday afternoon). The girls are giving it their all this week and i'm seeing some extra sticky, frosty buds!! Stay tuned for a boat-load of pics from harvest time next week as I enter the drying phase. I plan to give them a full week of hang-drying, possible more if they look to require it. HOW EXCITING! :joint:

WHEW!!!!! Well, we started our harvest today at about 3:30pm and just finished at about 11pm. We took a 1 hour break for dinner, so the whole trimming process took about 6 and a half hours!! I was pretty meticulous with the manicuring because I wanted to get them done right to avoid any 'leafy' buds. Some lower popcorm buds on one plant were skipped and will be done after the drying process, but they're all hanging in the bathroom now. I took a bunch of pics which will be posted up here as soon as I can - may not be tonight yet though, i'm exhausted!! Here's what our 'wet weight' ended up being... some of this include stem weight, so it's a bit heavy but not by much...

Rita: 196 grams
Tina: 158 grams
Harriet: 119 grams
Crystal: 128 grams
Olive: 167 grams
Betty: 141 grams
----------
Total wet weight including stems: 909 grams!!!

2 and a half small jars of 'lower-brach bud' and extra bits that were trimmed by mistake were not included in the above total... will weigh and add it in tomorrow....

UPDATE: The extra small buds in the jars totaled 42 grams which brings the GRAND total weight to 951 grams! This extra will mostly be used for cannabutter along with the trich-covered leaf clippings... except for the blue-cheese ones which will be smokable for sure! :joint:

After crunching the numbers, if we are left with 20% of the wet weight after drying, we will have a dry weight of 6.8 ounces!

The pics I took didn't really turn out that great...a lot of blurry ones... I'm going to try to clean them up a bit. In the meantime, here's a few of the finished product hanging to dry...

Barney's BlueCheese - BETTY
..............................................

Here's some action shots of the blue-cheese trimming. The last pic shows how the leaves turn when ready for harvest time! She weighed in at 141 grams wet.

Here's OLIVE. She was the tallest one you seen in the front-middle. Four nice sized tops came from this bagseed plant and she weighed-in at 167 grams wet... One of her tops was in a hot-spot for too long and got toasted a bit... I had to cut off about a half inch of that cola-top.

Extra journal notes:

- All of the stems were hollow during this harvest - a good sign that they were nice and dry before cutting. I didn't notice this to be the case at all last grow.
- Most of the plants were divided this time after and during the trim. I've noticed this helps a ton when doing the trim as it's easier to maneuver the plants while working. It should also benefit the drying process to have less thick stem...
