Pro Air Filter - why black?

Hey guys

My new Pro Carbon Air Filter just showed up at the door. I opened it, and there are black carbon pieces over the outside...and the while covering is stained black...

is this okay? Should I wash it or leave it? is this common during shipping?

It's quite common, just a bit of stuff left over from the factory plus the shipping knocks a bit around. Clean it up and install it
