And what happens after he serves those 25 years and gets out? Then you have a 40 y/o convicted murderer who has spent the majority of his life in prison, out walking the streets. I'm sure people will be lined up waiting to offer the guy a job. And since prison does such a great job of rehabilitation, he would never commit another crime...right?

This is my primary issue with trying minors as adults. They are still relatively young when they are eligible for release. The penal system is designed to punish. The prison walls, the guards, and fellow prisoners all contribute to the living hell that is prison. The system makes a half-hearted attempt at rehabilitation, but punishment overrides everything else.

And ex-cons are not only only worthless in terms of ever benefiting society, but they are angry at society for putting them there in the first place. And a felony on the record severely limits the opportunities for the ex-con. So with no prospects and a huge chip on their shoulder, what avenue will the ex-con most likely pursue on release?

As far as counseling/rehab...HE KILLED AN INNOCENT MAN FOR ENTERTAINMENT. And you want to give him counseling? Because he was "peer pressured"? WTF?

Counseling is not the answer either. Talk therapy is just that - talk.

My only problem with capital punishment is the number of people who have been cleared by dna evidence while sitting on death row. Anyone who can not afford an expensive lawyer is at a huge disadvantage in an american court.

I really don't have a good answer as to what to do with youthful offenders. As far as I am concerned, murder is an adult crime. I don't give a damn about rehabilitating them. If they are guilty, hang them right alongside the big boys. It's with the lesser crimes that I feel things get tricky.

i was thinking of this too.... I hope he has those stupid parents that "support their child no matter what" and keep his commissary account maxed out.... he will be the most popular of the unpopular in prison.... yes, he should be planning how the hell to get into PC the first day he gets there.... It wont matter though... prison is full of a bunch of real hardasses with nothing to lose... he'll get his.. and mine, and yours, and his again.... i may have to change my stance.... keep him in until he dies.

Authorities said Tillman confessed to police that he participated in the attack. Tillman’s attorney had called the case against her client weak, saying it lacked direct physical or witness evidence and relied on a confusing, “jumbled” police interview.
Tillman will appeal, defence attorney Marsha Kosmatka said.
“No one wins a murder trial,” she said.
Gregory Townsend, assisting prosecuting attorney, declined to comment.
The Oakland County Circuit Court jury reached the guilty verdict a day after beginning deliberations.
Tillman hung his head and wiped away tears as he was shackled and led from the courtroom.
The verdict came a day after a separate jury found 15-year-old Thomas McCloud guilty of two counts of first-degree felony murder for attacking Hamilton and a second homeless man, Lee Hoffman, also 61.
Sentencing for both McCloud and Tillman was scheduled for Nov. 13.
A third teenager suspected in the attacks was taken into custody Tuesday evening, Pontiac police Detective Steve Wittebort said. The suspect’s name and charges weren’t released ahead of a court appearance set for later Wednesday.
The third suspect was interviewed Wednesday morning and “there were admissions of involvement,” said Wittebort, who declined to elaborate."

Over here a young girl and her 19 year old boyfriend killed her family. The intent of the plot to do it was clear, she is out of prison now. Not sure about the man but I presume if he's not, the release is coming up soon.

I've heared the stereotype of teenagers beating up homeless people a lot, they probably didnt think they were gonna actually kill the man. A life was taken, but life in prison? Kinda harsh for a kid who just hasnt grown up. Maybe like 20 or 25 years, that would sure as hell teach the kid a lesson im sure he's already learned.

Not just teach respect for oneself, but life in general.. As for society, so long as "society" as we know it continues to be so sheltered and allowed to live in alternate reality then we will continue to have this problem. Too many people lack the ability to think on their own, and figure things out for themselves, because its become accepted, even expected to rely on other people for our information and typically the people we are getting that info from rely on us as their livleyhood so they preach to us false info and lies that sway us even more towards their biased thought process until we are completeley brainwashed and the result is news media and governmental control of the people. IF you know anything about the news media or government you know the are inefficient ignorant corrupt pieces of shit yet they run this country and the thinking of a vast number of its occupants.. Go to www.georgiafirst.org and go down a bit and read the legislation that is being presented to the GA Assembly in January 2010. It's quite bold even going as far as to requewst all federal taxes be paid directly to GA dept of Revenue to be paid to the federal govt as permitted by the General Assembly. really ground breaking thought is going on around here and if some of these acts succeed they will set a precedent for other states to follow and maybe once again we can learn to rely on our community instead of some globalized standard.
