I am attempting my fourth grow now. during veg. I have always done 18/6. I was thinkng of trying my lights on 24/0 this time. Anyone have experience growing both ways. I have heard the darkness is good for root devolopment but not sure if its true. Any feedback or opinions will be appreciated!

well 24 hr light is usualy used for root growth. if theres no darkness for the plant it cant stretch and grow....plants grow in the dark cause they stretch for more light. so thats why 18/6 exists pretty much, that and to save electricity. but ya 18/6 is defenatly better for veging cause your plants will actualy grow

I have done an entire 18/6 Veg grow and kept pics and a journal, and 24/7 VEG grew much faster, much taller.

I'm still looking for an explanation of how and why less light could possibly make a plant grow better, assuming all else is correct.

I know if you veg with flouro's going from seed for at least one month and up to two months that you will also get a greater F to M ratio. In all of the times I have done this, I have produced all Female plants. I do not have any experience with MH under 24/0. Naturally the conditions need to be right with Co2 & air movement in and out as well.

18/6 imo I personally saw better faster growth in 18/6 with 24/0 u don't seemd to get that 1/2 stretch overnight like u do 18/6 plus I see no need to pay for an additional 6 hours of light use for what MAY be of no benefit at all. Just my .02 many others will agree but just as many will disagree. Comes down to preference and practicality. Is it practical for u to run ur lights 24/7 or will neighbors see light leaks when it gets too dark? Can u afford the 180 extra hours a month the light will run? Are u concerned with root growth or are u in dwc or the like where roots are usually no problem aquiring? Just a couple thing to think about. :joint:

i like to start 24/0, it really helps young plants. i will stop around they time they show secondary growth. then i go 18/6. i like the results.

In my experience 18/6 was better 24/0 just made me have to water more frequently but there was a major difference every time i looked at my grow. But after several days the plant just stopped showing dramatic changes. I dont know if this is correct but i read somewhere, i think on RIU that 18/6 is for root and leaf growth and 24/0 is for leaf. But if you choose to do 24/0 i suggest you do it on the weekend. Why you ask, maybe its just me but i treat my plants like humans/famil/friends. They work hard all week 18/6 then on the weekend they party hard 24/0. In my experience the switching between the two light cycles 18/6 and 24/0 causes a major growth spurt.

i dont think changing that is good it mite stress them prity bad i mean there is no time in nature where the sun will do this. thats why i like to start 24/0 then go to 18/6 so there is only short stress period. the growth spurts mite be stretching?

plants grow during the darkness...fact
Plants grow at all times and only "stretch" during darkness. That would be a whole fact. What you proffered is a 1d representation of a 3d puzzle.

It has been scientifically proven that 24/0 is the absolute best light cycle if you are willing to go that extra mile for every metric. It's not for the average homegrower who has comparatively little control over their environments. It's for the real pros.

24/0 on all vegging plants for a couple years now, 1 less timer is the only reason i do it. If there is a difference i doubt its enough to make a difference unless you are on a commercial scale.

lol ... threads like these are made due to the fact of logic.

IF you eat more food, then do u get fatter/stronger? ..

If you eat less food, do you become thinner/weaker?..

same concept aplies to plants.
