Noob questions on lighting.....

Im really glad to have found this site. Ive been looking around,... reading stickies, and such.

I have a couple questions for you guys about lighting, for my first time set up . Im trying to decide what will be most cost efficient, but still yield good results.

Im lighting a space thats 5'x10'. Right now I have three 4ft. fixtures with 4, 32 watt fluorescent "cool white" bulbs, in each. One is hanging from the top, and two are on the sides. The entire space is covered in mylar, has a filtered temp controlled ventilation system, ect.


From what I understand, this will be "okay" for the vegatative state, but once I get close to flowering, I'll really need a HPS, or a sufficient LED set up.


My friend is an electronics wizz, and says we should build some led panels/fixtures. Ive looked at a few led sources, and the 3 watt led's needed seem to add up fast!


Would it be better to just spring for a HPS set up? I know of a guy that installs parking lot lighting, so I might can get a smoking deal on ballasts, and whatnot. I would just need some appropriate bulbs, I guess.

What do you guys think? WHich should I mess with?

Id go with a hps. E bay has some good deals.leds might be the future but still to expensive happy growing

I was looking into LEDs myself and have yet to find any reason to invest the money when the HPS systems are way more affordable and yield better. I would just go with HPS and in your spare time if you still want to build an LED kit you can while still getting good gains from your HPS.

Dude! Hps only! Go to www.Htgsupply.com get the 400w special. Even tho people will say u need more for the size. You will be just fine with the 400w. You can get a 400hps w/mh conversion bulb and up/down hangers forn$200 shipped!! Make sure to get the MH conversion bulb. Its $35 more, but its a second system basically for $35. Hope this helps, good luck!!

lol that would be a mh/hps sysetem.
