Startin a grow... could use some tips!

Hello everyone!! I am a 100% newbie to the growing game.. I've read through a lot of the threads and already know most of the in and outs. I could really use some tips as to the whole soil/nutrient thing.. My room is about 11 feet across and 5 or so feet deep. I will be growing 12 plants.. 6 medijuana and 6 supernova aka chronic. I plan on using two 600w switchable ballasts above each 6 plants.

I have seen a lot of good things about using coco instead of soil i think it was.. The coco looks like a great thing to use and i may have the just of it down.. they use 2 different cut types like chunks and something else.

On the nutrients I see alot about fox farm nutrients.. which i cant buy off their site i think you can only buy from stores which none near me carry. Or everyone is talking about advanced nutrients which i looked at and they are pretty pricy and it seems like you need a bunch of different kinds to do it.. i am stuck on those two things basically, i was going to go organic soil but reading about the coco everyone says their plants grow faster and you dont have to worry about over watering as much.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated even about the room or anything any tips i need.. its my first time i dont wanna mess these seeds up..

used the big bloom for veg

and the tiger bloom for flower.

yeah hold off on extra nutes for awhile-
maybe 3-4 weeks after seedings sprout

ahh thanks dave the SPT sounds like a great idea..with that i really think i could just go with coco as it would put everything i need right in there. i got one question, once i start my plants how long do i wait before i give them any nutrients or the super plant tonic? seems like you can give them the spt immediately

I started my first grow recently too. I suggest you use rockwool cubes during their first week or so then switch over to a soil based medium. Rockwool will keep the watering to a minimal amount and also soaks the water up better then soil. For your first grow, I suggest just starting out with like 2 plants then put the rest of the seeds aside incase you screw up. You pretty much know all the basics, I expect a good first grow out of you :P

Are you planning on using the hydroponic method or just a basic closet grow?

I closed off the end of a room in my house.. the rooms 11 feet wide and the thing will be about 5 feet deep.. so i will be doin a closet soil grow.. i think i am going to do 6 in coco and 6 in organic to see if i can really see a difference

Ive always read wait 2 weeks before giving nutes and give it at 1/4th of recommended dosage and work your way up if the plant doesn't show any damage.

Heres what OhsoGreen had to say about seedlings

"For use with seedlings, mix a half strength and give each one only 16 ounces of your mixed up SPT solution, if they are in a one gallon pot. Less if they are in a smaller pot."

SPT works best when its spent 24 hours in a tea with some molasses. The molasses feeds the micro-organisms in SPT, so more micro-organisms when you do water plus the water is oxygenated.

Unsulfured Molasses does have a NPK rating of 0-0-3.0-4.0, but with it being diluted I doubt it'll be a problem.

i ordered fox farm and earth juice nutrients.. figured i would experiment with all of them to see what works best. i also have some nutrients made for coco coir itself and some super plant tonic.. can you switch the nutrients your using as you go or is that not advised?

with coco your better off using products made for coco because it contains mirco bacteria that is benificial to the coco, if you plan on using coco i would probably take a couple of hours to read through that canna coco thread even if ur not gunna use canna, havent grown in it but i did plan to grow in it for a while... that thread really gave me some good info...

ye well IMHO

soil = easy(problems come on slow, have to check less often)

coco = medium(problems come on a bit quicker but if u know ur shit u can change it quick enough, have to water more often)

hydro = hard(problems come on very quick, you have to keep a closer eye on ur grow(ppm PH water temp))

but yeild and growth goes with difficulty

hope it all goes well for you

start a grow journal when u start and post a link here

i will do a grow journal. atm i am waiting on everything to be delivered. i bought a ppm meter and a ph meter dont really know how to work the ppm meter but hopefully its enough to keep my soil/coco in check. i have like 4 different kinds of nutrients so far but i wanna get the coco nutrients
