Start Proving It!!!!!

I also am doing something similar to Lacy, I harvested some of my plants earlier, for instance my Blue Berry I took some of the side colas 2 weeks before I cut the main cola. There is a noticeable difference for sure. The side colas or the stuff I harvested first gives me a nice tummy tingle work in the yard kind of high, I enjoy it. Now granted, it's got less of a high it is nice to have variety...so I can get high and still do all my "chores". Now the main cola gets me couchlocked if I smoke too much, it was ripe. i don't know that the whole thing peeves me, it does when someone has a whole plant and they cut the whole thing early sure. But if someone is growing one type of plant that just gets them couchlock, why not create some variety and cut some of the side colas early. You can have a less potent version for those days where you need you medicine and have stuff to do. Also in Lacy's instance she is pretty experienced outdoors but not in or the other way around I forget. She has no microscope to look at the trichomes and definitely doesn't have the experience that you have FDD, so why not cut a little here and then a little a week later, see what works for the next go around. I know what you are saying about a plant looking done, but some people haven't had that experience just yet so they rely on the trichome thing. I could see why harvesting a whole plant early would bother you, it's impatience that irks me. I tend to grow indicas and yes I do look at the trichomes quite often and I will harvest at different points just for the variety, but I don't harvest as soon as the trichomes look ready...I start flushing for the next week or so at this point and it works great for me.

fdd. I completely agree with you, and I am very glad you are here to put "facts" into perspective. One question for you on the trichs if you dont mine. Do you use a microscope to check your trichs or do you just know your plants are ready by the obvious physical signs that they are ready? I ask because I have read nearly all your posts and seen your pics of buds before ready and when they are ready.

wow, all positive. thank you my friends. lacy, keeps us posted on the logbook of stoniness. these are the things we really need.

which brings me to todays peeve.......................................

lets start testing some of this stuff before we swear to it. like molasses for instance. what does it really do for the plant? we know what it does for the soil. how it adds beneficial this and that. but is it really helping? did the soil not have that in it already? would the plant have grown that way anyway? everyone says i saw results. maybe the plant was just at that point.........

the best way to prove all this is like lacy said. test it and keep records. use 2 identical cuttings from the same mother. grow them side-by-side under the exact same condition other then what you are testing. log the results. then swear to it.:blsmoke:

all i keep hearing is...................."your plants did so well because of the california sunshine"..............people have a hard time believing they are capable of the same results. they still think i'm MAGIC.
I don't use molassess but I would be willing to do a Molassess vs. Sweet vs. nothing experiment once I get a camera if people are interested in seeing something like that. I am an old outdoor guy and no offense but I didn't know shit till I came inside, so I have been keeping little logs of all my plants. I'm hoping in two years or so I know my stuff pretty well. this is a good thread. Anyone else have any experiments they could do?

for many years theirs been research among the organic community on the use of molasses, being a certified organic farmer i try to keep up on new things. the research has been done i don't need to prove it it has been proven

Not just the FREE sun shine you get but then able to plant in the grown so the root ball is the size of a tree..... lucky lucky, and like my dad said this past weekend when i saw him, Growing outdoors easy, Indoors cost a lot and you have to know what the plant needs in its soil because it will use the nutes it has available.;-)

anybody catch novembers high times? it's the "harvest special". shows how to tell when to harvest. then you open the centerfold and it's a big pile of manicured PREMATURE bud. not even close to done. not a single brown hair and it's not even filled in. pounds of it. pisses me off. A LOT of people rely on those guys for info. compare their pics to the mags. A LOT of people harvested waaaaay to early this year, i'm sure. just because of that alone.

This is where I need to spend even more time looking at your pics of finished buds. in my eyes the first pic needs 2 more weeks. The second pic i would probably harvest in a few days. The next two pics I would say a week and the last one 2 weeks. Am I close? I am very glad I didnt buy that issue of High Times.

Man I'm jealous...lol. nice plants!!!

I agree with you godspeed, not FDD he is able to monitor his plants everyday but I was guerrila growing, consists of a lot of sneaking and hoping the plants make it, I barely got to see what was happening with the plants. When I moved indoors is when I started to really learn about plants, it's fun but it is a lot of work at times.

FDD what is your total yield for the year gonna be? If you don't mind me asking, I was just wondering, could you stuff a matress with it and sleep on it, or bury yourself in it....

How about an experiments forum, where people can post experimental journals to proove different myths? This would give everyone a solid page to check to see whats bs and whats not. We could call it, Myth busters = )

I think theres to many rules of thumb for when to harvest. For instance alot of people are like, "well most of the hairs turned amber, so I chopped". Well if anyone looks at my purple widow pics on my grow journal, all the hairs turned orange, but It didnt look done to me so I waited. A couple days later, more white hairs started coming out, it ended up haveing about 10 days more to grow, and filled in quite nicely. You cant really go by these things, because its not like we are all growing clones from the same mother. Cannabis plants are illegal, that makes them rebels, so they do their own thing.

Grow on growers <3 = ) <3

oh see you can't make the claim that you're not MAGIC. you threw a clone into cat food (or was it litter) and it survived!:wall:

this is starting to sound a lot like https://www.rollitup.org/outdoor-growing/24703-its-all-bullsh-t.html

i think it goes back to how i learned all this. there were not books out at the time. well maybe 1 or 2 but you had to go underground to find them. so i had to learn by trial and error. i started readying "how to grow" books after i learned how to grow. it's a "magic" plant but it doesn't take a "magician" to grow it.

Hit the nail on the head with this post. I havent been growing nearly as long as some of you but, I am always being bombarded with, "You have to grow this way" or "You have to grow that way". I don't sell what I grow so that takes the burden off my shoulders and allows me to experiment on every grow.

I find it amusing that if you do someting that is a step away from the so-called grand poobah books out there it turns into OMGWTFAGRHGHHRBBQ and people call you a dumbass. Well fuck that I enjoy growing and if my methods and tactics differ from those that are written in a how-to guide then so be it. :joint:
