Need advice on a generator

I plan on expanding my grow room and running (3) 600w HPS lights. I live in a condo and plan to use a generator due to the amount of power I'll be pulling.

My budget is about $1,000 for a generator I just don't know what kind to get? Any suggestions?

Make sure that your ballasts are compatible/compliant with a generator. I believe some Digital ballasts can't be hooked up to generators. It might be the electronic ballasts that are like that; sorry I can only point you in the right direction. Good luck to you sire!

I'm no expert, but I think that a stinky and obnoxiously loud generator would probably attract more unwanted attention than just a higher than normal electric bill.

But that's just me.

Regardless, good luck.

Generators are expensive if you get a good one built for long term continuous running.
You also need to factor in the fuel costs, noise, and fumes. I don't think it would be a wise decission to use a generator in a Condo.

generators are now very quite! I recommend a Honda they are the best and the quuitest I have ever heard. we use them fishing off the bridges atnoght and you can barely hear them 5 feet away

The small ones are quiet, but are not made for continuous use.
If the generator is small enough to carry it is probably only a 1000 watt model which would not even run the three lights.
