i use activated carbon filters made by rhino. They work 100% .. not so much as a slight smell, infact, you cant smell anything.
if yours have no effect then either your rooms not sealed or something else is up

It sounds like you have a major air leak. Even if it's a cheap filter it should still work to some degree.

my grow room is completly sealed except for the door to the room i drilled a six inch hole in the door and ran my exhaust thru the hole and put a can filter on it and could not smell anything outside the room after that and im growing a very smelly strain. the exhaust fans suck air in under the door and it all exits thru the can filter out the hole in the door.

Isn't it more ideal to pull the air thru a Can filter then exhausting it? yes always better to pull through a carbon filter rather than to push the air through it. reason being the dust will clog the carbon, hence why they come with a fabric pre filter on the outside.
