Is it normal to pay over 30$ for shipping?

Hello everyone, i was about to buy some fox farm ocean forest soil and that trio pack of nutrients. I have looked at several different websites, and there always seems to be "a catch" to every one of them. They all seem to want me to spend around 100$ Some of them will sell the FF soil and trio pack of nutrients for about 50$, but then shipping will be about 45$ ????
Does anyone know a good place to order those FF products?
i even tried the actual fox farm website, and i dont think u can even order from them. They just tell you their location and where u can go to buy it.

www.htgsupply.com shipping all depends on where ur at and the weight of ur package!
hey thnx for your reply. I went to that website you provided and tried to buy some soil for 20$, then i entered my zip code, and shipping cost 29$ lol. I guess this is normal? Unfortunately there is not a hydro shop around here. Closest 1 is about 150+ miles away and i dont feel like doing all that.

Dude soil bags weigh over 50lbs. plus the nutes are at least another 8-10lbs. Shit's heavy bro!
very good point lol. So i guess i can just pay around 50$ for shipping, or drive 150 miles to the next town with a hydro shop. Hmmmm driving might just be cheaper i guess ehh?

that seems to be about average, depending on where you live. Nutes seem to be expensive when it comes to shipping. not sure why. the 3 pack is only 3-4 lbs and should actually be around $10-$25 depending on location. the soil will also add to the cost. I have also seen people charge $45.00 to ship the tripack, kind of shows the handling charges are matched with the shipping. with the way Fedex/UPS/USPS are setup, the automation is quite easy, yet very few have dropped their handling fees.

Just thought of a place to try: http://www.hydroasis.com

I think their shipping for the 3 pack is around 10-12 dollars.
I've used them on a few items, based in Cali, kind of lame on order support, they take their time getting the order out (3 different locations possible shipping locations to send the product from) but you get it. just answer their phone calls (some times verification, or orders being shipped from separate locations - shipping charges change). Just keep on them. It's not the greatest experience but the prices are reasonable and the shipping is worth it on some orders. if driving 150 miles, gas, time, etc... is comparable or competitive, drive to the hydro store.

dude, yes, it is totally normal to pay that price for shipping. Those companys buy their stock on pallets, but shipping a big bag of dirt? Ya, it can easily cost more than the dirt. It sucks ass and is almost worth it to drive to a dealers store even if it's a few hundred miles.

Thanks for the replies everyone, now i wont feel so bad about paying the shipping lol. But now i realize its 50 pounds, i dont think i will need all that!!! lol im only going to grow 2 plants ( 1 red diesel, 1 super lemon haze) This will be my first grow, so will i need 50 pounds of dirt for 2 plants? lolI also saw a smaller bag that was 12 quarts i think for about 8$. would that be more suitable?

probably for 1 plant. it's almost enough to fill a 3 gallon pot. It depends on how big you want them to grow too. Plus if driving long distances to stock up on grow medium is a factor, buying large quantities will save time and delay in the future.

Do you have a local gardening center or farming supply? some will carry large bales of soilless mixes (moss, perlite, dolomite lime), i'm using Pro-Mix BX (bought a large bale and it should allow me to finish 12-16 plants in 2 gallon pots) . this will allow you to control/know what goes in the soil as far as the nutes you want to use. premixed (MG) can easily burn your plants. I have found this to be true for vegetables i have grown, it can be a mess and more expensive in the long run to resolve any nutrient issues. Also, make sure that you get some veg nutes other than those for bloom. FoxFarm has a feeding schedule that includes Big Bloom, Tiger Bloom and Grow Big. These will run you around 16-20 each (quart) to 25-45 a gallon. shipping is a bitch, but if you can't get them locally, or with a reasonable drive you may have to order them online.
The tri pack will last you for several grows (possibly years with only 2-4 plants a grow).

dude, i bought only 2 seeds feminized, altogether with shipping i paid 30$ i thought i would be getting a better deal buying them seperately since im only going to grow 2 plants. But hopefully those 2 seeds workout, kinda nervous about it lol

im going to try and grow them as big as i can =) i will be using a 90 watt ufo led from ebay, i think there like 160$ and ill get 2 65 watt cfl's for flowering to go along with the ufo. I wish i could use HPS but im in an apartment and its a long story blahahah just cant do it lol. But thats all i have to work with.
I also just found a hydro store about 100 miles from here. So i think they might have some foxfarm, if not im sure they will have something good. I will see this monday.
I should get the seeds in about 4 more days, i get paid tomorrow, so then i will order the ufo lol, get the soil and nutrients this weekend, and start my grow by next week! lol this wil be fun
