Entitlement mentality

Since anthropology is a study of cultural, social, or biological influences on humanity - "advancement" socially and culturally has little to do with advancement of technology, industrially, or economically.

Not surprising that these things would go right over your head, since you seem to equate the term "liberal arts" with liberalism as it applies to politics.

Length of life also has little to do with where we are culturally, and more to do with the fact that we have advanced industry, technology, and highly trained medical professionals. These things exist outside the scope of the study of anthropology, and are more in line with studies of economics or sociology.
You know, it is obvious to most here that you are trying to be something you are not. You have obviously never taken a course in anthropology because it most certainly does include technological advancements among other things. The move from hunting & gathering societies to farming is a technological advancement in many ways and it is a central issue.

You really seem to have a propensity to opine on matters of which you have no understanding what so ever and it shows. This combined with the fact that you are a key participant in every single thread in this section suggests that you have psychological issues you need to deal with.

You consider yourself educated but you are in fact merely opinionated.

If you don't want to participate, you don't have to live here. But like someone else said, don't expect to be able to leave without producing your government-issued, taxpayer funded passport. Since you don't think you should pay taxes, though, I don't think you should be able to get a passport. Put in a call to your local vital records department and have them shred your birth certificate, since it's tax dollars that allow them to keep a record of it for you. Turn over any copies of birth certificates and your social security card (since those are issued by the government and paid for with tax money).

The only solution: The death penalty.

Taxpayers aren't going to support your non-taxpaying ass while you sit in prison for not paying taxes.
As a waiter do you claim every dime of your tips on your income tax?

And you never miss an opportunity to contradict yourself or insult someone else. You know very little, for someone so loud, and you constantly project your own feelings of inadequacy onto others. You provide no facts, merely anecdotes and suppositions. Your head rests squarely on your right shoulder, and you would just as soon die as glance at the left.

You're self-absorbed, self-important, and condescending to anyone who doesn't share your very narrow set of beliefs.

It's useless to try and talk sense into you. Here's to hoping you don't have many years left, and your kind will soon be replaced by those "indoctrinated" with their "liberal arts" degrees.

A Turkish General at a party after Turkey was accepted into NATO said it best.

"The only trouble with having America as an ally is, you never know when they are going to turn around and stab THEMselves in the back".

We are our own worst enemy.

Our democracy allows weak thinking to survive and sometimes the govt. in exchange for votes, obliges those weak thoughts.

Liberal economics comes to mind.

Human nature must always be factored into every equation. When the govt. hands out "free" things, they know it will attract a "certain type" of person. They also know that once someone gets something for free (of course it isn't free at all, but the costs are hidden from the user), they will never refuse more. This starts a circular pattern of entitlement thinking reinforced by all too willing politicians....... the only cost is their vote.

It's not a fair exchange at all, and in the end, the user of the "free" goodies, falls farther and farther from the hope of changing their lives.

Some would argue that if there is an option of either getting on all the "dole" programs, or getting a job as a Janitor, being that they work out to about the same amount of money intake, that the person would be foolish to take the Janitor position.

However, the Janitors position gives the person a smidgen of self worth. A feeling of accomplishment, if only in producing a spotless floor. That person is also out of the house and socializing with other ppl who are achieving self worth as well. You can't get self worth from a govt. program, or the television sitting on ur couch. In that case, it works the opposite way, and eventually degrades the recipient.

Besides all that, the Janitor is IN the work force. For all we know, that Janitor has some great ideas of his/her own. We'll never discover them if he/she is sittin home watching Soaps and collecting a steady but meager check from the govt.

Short cuts almost always produce short results.

You ARE free to make your own choices. However, if you want to make those choices within the United States, then you must follow the same rules as the rest of us.

It's like Mom and Dad always say "As long as you live under MY roof, you follow MY rules".

Don't like it? Get a place of your own.

Freedom is not the same thing as anarchy.

Like I tell my kids when they gripe about having to do chores, Being part of a family means pitching in, even when it isn't your mess.

Strike family and replace it with "society", and the moral of the story holds true.

Don't want to be a member of society? Fine, then get the fuck out. See how much you really like it out on your own.
Get a place of my own? I'm betting I've
been paying my own way since before you were shitting up diapers son.

I didn't say I didn't want to belong to a society. I said I should own my body, my property, my labor, my choices. More importantly. YOU should too, regardless of our disagreement. A "society" that doesn't advocate that is NOT a free society.

Your "get the fuck out" statement further validates your foolish acceptance of might makes right. You resort to calling names when words and logic fail you. What will you do if I say "no, I will not get the fuck out, I'll live my life as free as I can." Will you persecute somebody who attempts to be free? Will you round up the pot smokers and give them the death penalty ? Oh wait YOU smoke pot so THAT is an exception?
If you believe in your freedom to smoke Pot, but somehow think your other choices are subject to another man's whims, you are blind.

There are rules in society too, the best one of all - is to leave others alone if they aren't harming you. "Get the fuck
out" huh? You are championing freedom there?

Maybe I should stub my toe and demand somebody else feed me, clothe me or bitch that the government doesn't do enough for me? I don't want you or anybody to be forced to take care of me. Nor do I want to be forced to care for anybody else. Mind you, I didn't say "I DON'T CARE, I said I don't want to be forced, there's a difference. By the way, How many homeless people sleeping on your couch tonite?

The best society isn't one where people decide how their neighbors will live or which programs they will fund. The best society is where men stand on their own two feet and don't tell others how to live as long as there is mutual respect, even when people disagree.

Entitlements for the able bodied are not designed to help, they are designed to enslave and to enable.

You will learn these things the hard way, I did. Peace.

My comment about the death penalty was made in jest. Obviously it flew right over your head.

Name-calling? Where? I think you're reading far too much into my statements in order to create some sort of perceived "argument" between us.

I agree with you, we should have certain freedoms. What I don't agree with is that we are somehow entitled to these freedoms simply because we exist.

If a person harms nobody else, which freedoms are you advocating taking from them? We ARE entitled to all freedoms, the fact that others attempt to restrain our freedom does not mean they don't exist.

What doesn't exist is the ahem "right" to force others to provide for us. Ever.

So...still waiting for your reply to my request to definition the word extortion. If property taxes on a property that you "own" to pay for a service you don't use or want isn't extortion please tell me what is? Or will you dodge the question again?

And by the way, after a period and before your next sentence you should have two spaces.
I find your original post pretty insightful but this is completely irrational!!! Yeah, just kidding. But it's actually an outdated concept from when newspaper typography used typesetting. With modern desktop publishing, single spacing after sentences is considered acceptable.

Actually, I have forgotten more than you could ever wish to know. I have read more books on politics and social issues than you could even fathom. I'm sure you have read nothing save for Leftist nonsense like the Daily Kos and the Huffington Post.

If I were to spend the time to refute every piece of nonsense you pull out of your ass I would be here for a thousand years. Most of the time the stuff you post isn't even worthy of refuting.

You are an ignoramus pretending to be a know it all and this is obvious to everyone.

I in fact have an IQ in the 98th percentile. I have a formal education in a highly complex area of study and I own a successful business and earn six figures. And by the way, I am sitting looking out my window at the all sports lake on which I live while typing this.

You on the other hand have no degree, live paycheck to paycheck and spend your time whining like a little bitch about how unfair life is and how your shitty life is everyone else's fault.

Maybe if you stopped acting like you know everything and cleaned up your attitude you might actually go somewhere in life. Maybe if you shut up and listen to those who are more knowledgeable and experienced than you you just might learn something.

Okay we get it you don't like some of his posts. Not sure how talking up your accomplishments is relevant to expressing your disagreement with him either?

Me? I'm a selfmade multi-billionaire with a harem of nubile young women in every major city. I can bench press 1500 lbs and my huge dick is so annoying, the fucker never goes flaccid. Hard to have my tailor made clothes stay unwrinkled.

The movie producers have been after me for years to star in their films due to my good looks. I always refuse because I'm busy writing a book that will blow Einsteins theory of relativity out of the water. Oh yeah I personally saved 3 kids from a burning building this morning, by pissing it out. Did I mention I'm good looking already? Oh enough about me, what were we talking about?

Thank you for saving us, Mr. Roy.
But could you give us any pointers for getting the smell of urine out of our hair?

Gratefully,
The children.

You seem to think you're included in this "more knowledgeable" category. You're not.

This post is yet another manifestation of your inferiority complex. Point fingers at everyone else in order to justify your own worth. Hold the disadvantaged down so you can continue to feel somewhat successful. It's actually pretty pathetic, and the only person you have consistently on your side is just as self-absorbed as you are, and commands just as little respect.

I take complete responsibility for my own life. I'm working my way through TWO degrees right now, while working TWO jobs - so I don't have to live paycheck to paycheck forever. Do I bitch and whine that my life isn't fair? Not once. Unlike yourself, who never misses an opportunity to piss and moan and blame the poor, minorities, or the government for all YOUR problems.

RickWhite, you are NOBODY. You know nothing about the real world that exists outside your gated, lakeside community.

Don't bother responding. As far as I'm concerned, your opinion is worthless and you no longer exist.

wow.

You know what is great? Getting FREE* advice from someone on a message board who claims a certain social status as proof of their correctness. How do I know that you aren't really a playboy playmate
who while smoking hawt...really couldn't even run a kissing booth at a carnival? Maybe you are really a homeless wino at the public library?

You claim that a sense of entitlement makes for horrible workers. No...it makes for horrible drones. If you want aggressive, intelligent employees that are looking
for more responsibility...you probably want someone who demands more of their life than just keeping their heads down and their backs sweaty. Now I completely understand that each company needs people happy with no raises for years on end,
being stuck in the same job for a decade and that are willing to suck it up and accept their lot in life...but that is not "ideal" for everyone.

Truth is there is no monopoly of the truth. You are a guy. I am a guy. That person over there is a guy.

There are about a billion Buddhists that would consider both of us FAR from enlightened.

There are many people that would agree with everything you said.

After each generation of each group dies...who declares the winner? Nobody.

Now get back to your meth lab and leave the lectures to those professors that you dislike.

*Glad it was free...I'd be looking for a refund otherwise.

Why the hell would anyone with a super high IQ and a successful business making six figure incomes be on an internet forum debating politics with potheads while looking at the all sports lake? Either you're full of shit, or have no life whatsoever.

An "all sports lake" is one of the features they market on expensive building developments. It's not grammatically incorrect. Just a marketing term most people don't see.

Anyway, regarding the subject of degrees - all a degree means is that you've become specialized in a specific area of knowledge. This can be quite a feat depending on the degree, but does it make someone a better person than someone who doesn't have one. Hardly.

Even within those who hold degrees there classism... "My medical degree trumps your degree in post modern art." And then the guy with the art degree comes out from behind the counter and dumps fry oil on the pretentious doctor.
