If you aren't going to use MH/HPS than I would say t5's would be your best bet.

You doing like one or two plants? That is a small fixture.

I would say that in addition to CFLs as side lighting will do just fine for a small grow.

do not buy that... for 130$ 8000 lumens is way low... jeez WAY LOW. try this 50,000 lumens for 150$ http://cgi.ebay.com/400-WATT-HPS-DIGITAL-GROW-LIGHT-SYSTEM-400W-SUN-LAMP-CE_W0QQitemZ290355674688QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item439a8bfe40&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

In my opinion that is very expensive for what you are actually getting. I mean it looks like just a big fixture with 4 t5s in them when you can get a 2-lamp fixture at walmart for $10x2 compared to the $130 or whatever.

I think cfl's are better if you are growing a small number of plants because they are much stronger than the long fluoros and will work better on a concentrated area like just a few plants. Heres a link to some good ones, the 105 watt 6500k would be Great for vegging.

You can buy that exact fixture from home depot or lowes for 30-40 w/ bulbs. T5s are the shit for veg. I use them.

dont waste cash on those t5's man... the money you spend you could easily get 10 large cfl's and get ALOT more lumens, while taking up alot less space. but if you have to have one you can go to home depot and get a flourescent utillity fixture and 4 professional quality gro lamps for it for less than 100........

T5 vs HOT5 is a different animal. Walyworld doesn't carry the HOT5s

i use hydro farm commercial 8 bulb t5HO. they produce +35000 lumens and are around 200. i'm will be using these to flower a small room. 1st time trying these for flower. will try and keep ya posted. they also have 2 spectrums of bulbs for these units as well.

Get a 250watt hps if the 400 is too much light for you
The little sun system 250 is a cool setup and hps is the best imo

a t5 HO = 20=30k lumens for 200 - 250 watts.

A MH or HPS would produce less heat and less lumens. I would try it if heat is the issue here.
