I have another theory about the dying hairs. I, too, have been having specific buds with the hairs turning and dying. Coincidentally, I have a habit of squeezing the bud while it's still growing so that I can see how dense it is and how wonderful it smells. Go figure, the buds that I squeeze are the ones that have brown hairs.
As for the bud density, there's so many variables that play into this I don't know where to start. I guess there are four main factors. First is the environment. Do you have good ventilation in the room? Good ventilation means low humidity and heat. I have found that high temperatures can totally hamper buds from fattening up. Second is your light. Are you using a HID bulb or just CFLs? The type of bulb dictates how much energy your plants receive. Third is your nutes. Your plant appears to be healthy overall with no signs of deficiencies, however, that doesn't mean that it is receiving enough nutes, or the proper array of nutes. You should reference another thread or website to see a breakdown of what your plant needs. Also, not letting your soil dry out plays into this. If your soil is constantly drying out, the plant isn't getting the chance to uptake the nutes that it needs when it needs. And finally, your pot size. If there is anything that I have learned from growing, it's that 90% of the work you put forth should be in accomodating the roots. Roots are everything. And if you have a large plant without a large enough root ball (ie large pot for roots to expand), your harvest will suffer.
As for the time left your plant has... How long has it been on 12/12? The average plant takes 8 weeks. And from the picture, yours doesn't look like it has too much sativa in it, so it should be close to a 8 week plant as well.
