DIY Flood table?

hey guys, new to this site. Looks great and ive just been delving into the forum, lots of great info and gurus here.

Anyway, ive been looking at some of the designs and ops you guys use, and im debating on sog or aero for my next system. Im using an extremely simple drip with 10 plants atm but want to upgrade.

I was really liking the see more bud aero op, but then i came across the sog system used by a few on this board and im pretty impressed.

I looked at my local hydro shop and the tables i want (4 x 4) are over 500 a pop with the bench! I want 4 of these, so im pretty sure i can make them for tons cheaper then $2K! lol

So was hoping that someone might have done this already and could give me plans or atleast some advice/tips on what i could use for trays/tables.

Thanks! :hump:

well if you wanted smaller ones then you can make them out of any plastic tote or mixing tub, but big ones you might have to build. My first ever flower was in a 4x2 bed i made myself out of wood, then just lined it with the 4mil rolls of plastic you see at home depot or lowes. used adhesive spray to get the film nice and flat, squeezed my fittings through and sealed with silicon, never had a leak, didnt cost much to make, you could do 4 for under $100

oh yeah and you dont have to do sog or aero you can do both, most aero grows are sog.

Thanks that's what I figured. I was also thinking maybe I could use the small kid pools and just build a table for them.

And I think I want to try flood because of it's simplicity. A friend of mine is going to switch to aero so I'll be able to compare.

I built a 3x6 table out of 2x6 and plywood, I ordered a 25 dollar pond liner from e-bay did the plumbing then got an 80 gallon rez. I flood it four times a day. And I am 2 weeks into flower on my first grow and everything is working great.

I built two 3x8 tables in my flower room out of plywood,2x4's and plastic liner that plumbers use before thry lay in a tub fixture. It is super thick. Ran 1x6's with holes drilled in it for 3' net pots on one table and ran 1x12's on the other table. Then painted them. Very simple, and you can get flood and drain fittings at a hydro store or DIY in the plumbing dept at any big box home center.

I built my on fishtank once. Lay fiberglass on the inside and then epoxy over the top. Epoxy is water resistant but it will crack under stress and time. I reccomend fiberglass for strength

not sure how big you want but the trays themselves aren't too bad mail order, if you are talking 3 X 3 they are around $79 each. when you get bug uns like 4 X 8 they get expensive quick. if you stick to 3 X 3 UPS or Fex EX can ship them. I own this tray http://www.futuregarden.com/cgi-bin/shop/50-3320.html the ebb and flow fittings themselves are also not very expensive usually $8-12 bucks for a set. If you want larger trays here is a link, shop around though http://www.bghydro.com/BGH/items.asp?Cc=TR&iTpStatus=0&Tp=&Bc= but remember larger trays usually need truck shipping $$$.

Wow those look really nice. With the flood and drain is it necessary to have the basket holders or could i just use the rocks to hold the baskets?

i really want 4 X 4 trays, but 400 bucks shipped for (4) 3 x 3 trays isnt sounding too shabby either, thats proabably cheaper then i could build them. Id like to fit 20 plants on each table, and im not sure if i could do that easily with a 3 x 3.

Is there anywhere i could ship 4 x 4s from that you know of? And im curious how much shipping would be extra for a truck delivery or if i could pick it up from fedex/ups?

Also, i dont exactly want 4 flood tables just showing up at my house, i wonder if they make them look unsuspicious or what.

If you want to fill the table with clay pellets and just put the netpots in there I think you will have an issue with the plants falling over. I use the boards across the topp with holes cut in them for the net pots to ensure this dosen't happen when the plants get tall and top heavy. As for the cost, each of my 3x8 tables cost roughly about 25.00 to build and that included the two fittings for the fill and drain for ea table..

I am using under the bed storage bin's for my sog and I can fit 21 5.5"x5.5"x6" pot's! Large rubbermaid's are great also! I have 3 4'x4' tray's sitting here collecting dust.
