Beginners First Grow (Indoor)

I am beginning my first grow with a few waterfarm units....

I have a 600w HPS hortilux with the extra lumens...

1) how do I germinate hydro seeds and care for them
2)How do I figuer the light distance etc.
3) Suggestions?

Honestly i think you'll be better off starting off with cfl's until like 3 weeks from germination. First put your seed(s) in a glass of water overnight Then put your seed(s) in a moist papertowel and make sure it doesnt dry out. Also keep it on a plate on top of say a cable box to keep it warm. tthen once you see a lil taproot plant the seed about 1/4" into your medium and lightly cover the seed. After a couple weeks put them under the 600W. It should be placed far enough away for you not to feel heat on the back of your heat. just my 2 cents

Do I have to have a cfl? and what wattage/distance from plant during phases.....

heat on the back of your hand. sorry i'm retarded. But move your hand towardic the light until you feel heat. thats the distance you want to keep it from your plants. With the cfl's i use 26W (daylight 6500k's for veg) i keep the cfls about 2" away. The 600w will be more like 2-3' depending on ventilation. You dont NEED cfls but i like them for veg. 6x26w cfl's. check out the cfl growing sub category for setup ideas. I used a powerstrip with 3 socket adapters/ splitters. if i were you i'd go with the cfls for veg and use the HPS for flower

Can I put seedlings directly onto hydroton? I dont have a shop near here and i need to start asap.-----so seedlings are 3-4' away from a 600w super hortilux hps
