Things that are better? Shopping for lights @ HTG Supply

I'm shopping for a new light. Been using CFLs and T5, but I'm running out of places to plug things in, so I thought I'd make that last outlet count and purchase some HID lighting.

I found a great deal on a 400W system here:

http://www.htgsupply.com/growlights.asp?categoryID=1&subcategoryID=155&typeID=55

Does anyone have experience ordering from this supplier? Is this a good deal for a 400W system? I've looked at several different sites and this was the best price I've seen.

This particular system comes with either a MH lamp or a HPS lamp, or you can get both. Do I need both types of lamps?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I'm willing to spend about $150 and I think 400W is about right for my area (12 sq. ft).

I got there 250 watt system and it works great

Hey tom, thanks for stopping by :bigjoint:

I was just checking out your grow yesterday, I think it was, and saw the pic of the htg supply reflector that was posted there so I went to their site to check it out and found the 400W.

Nice garden, too, by the way! Looks like you're having great results with 400W?

Yup I am having great results, the only thing is that I got that 400 watt system off ebay not htg. Look on ebay dude, I got a 400 watt digital ballast, 400 HPS bulb, yo yo hangers, 6 inch cool tube, and a timer all for $202 shipped to my door. I would def look into it

How hot does your 400W light get? I'm wondering how the change from floros is going to affect the climate in my room.

It def puts out some major heat. I have it connected to a 6 inch 306 CFM inline fan and have a diy carbon filter on the other end. The passive intake duct is attached to a window a/c vent and the a/c is usually on 71°F. The temps stay at 76-78°F with this setup. My box is 4.5 feet tall, 2 feet deep, and 3 feet wide. I also have the digital ballast attached to the outside back wall of the box so that helps with heat also

HTGsupply has great products not just lights. I bought my mylar, 4"inline fan and scrubber, the 400 HPS from them. They are great guys and quick shippers.

I'm actually hoping for major heat :fire:

The area I'm planning on growing in has no heat or a/c and I'm hoping I can rely on the heat from the light to warm things up. Right now my space is open because summers are hot as fuck, but I expect it to get pretty chilly during the winter months so I'm going to close in with some panda poly. I've also got a space heater I can set up if it gets too cold.

Well than that should work great man, if heat is an issue than get a magnetic ballast because those things can get pretty damn hot

The light I'm looking at does in fact have a magnetic ballast, so that's excellent news!

Should I get the hps ballast/bulb with an additional mh conversion bulb, or should I use the floros and CFLs I have already to make a separate veg area? HPS are for flowering, right?

Yup HPS is for flowering. I would just stick to the flouros and CFL's for veg. If you wanna upgrade that area you can always get t-5's, they work excellent for veg

I've got one T5 I'm using now, and I agree it's awesome. I plan on adding more, probably up to four, maybe even more. CFLs are cheap, but I'm finding it's a pain dealing with all the cords and placement of the bulbs, etc. I'd rather not use them at all, once I've got something better in place.

I'm thinking of just adding 3 more of these http://growwurks.com/sun-blaze-t5-strip-lights-4ft.aspx since I already have one. The space I'm in is approximately 3' wide, 4' long, and 7' high and contains a 3' tall table separating the area into two. I'm planning on turning the area under the table into the veg chamber and mounting the T5s either directly on the underside of the table or suspending it from the table with ropes and pulleys. The 400W hps will hang from the ceiling above the table and each chamber will be lined with panda essentially creating two separate enclosures - both 4' long and 3' wide with the veg chamber 3' tall and the flowering chamber 4' tall.

I'm pretty excited about my upgrades, now if I can muster the patience to wait out the next 6 weeks until i can afford it =x
