hey rolling what type of light are you using and how far away is it. if you have more than an inch and a half betwwen nodes your plant is stretching too much and the light needs to be closer..i assume your using floros? if you look at the pictures i posted on this thread youll see how much space should be between nodes. i dont even have an inch between nodes, more like a half an inch.

the plants that i lst trained, they started growing branches off of the branches, do you understand what im saying? i have brancherowing strait up from the sides of my tied down branches. the plants are more like shrubbs

You might also try super cropping those areas on the branches where you've got space. It ***reallly*** fills in when you do that. Just be very gentle when you're doing it. Look thru some of the threads here. I think in advanced cultivation there were two recent threads about super cropping.

I even managed to break thru my stem when I first did it, and the plant healed up and produced a lot of growth there, but I still would not recommend doing that (breaking thru the stem).

Have fun. I can't wait for next time. I'm going to get really creative with the scrog after LSTing. Fun!

here is another plant i just started and it is going crazy, the very first branch on it is like 8 inches high now and they are catching up , i tied it so it wwill grow in a complete circle on the inside rim. its so cool the stuff you can do with these plants. my plants absolutly flourished when cropped and topped and tied down. i started using fox farm gro big and tiger bloom and made a mix of my own dirt 1/2 vermaculite 1/ sphagmom and pete moss, then perlite and some regular seed starter soil. the difference is amazing . before i used regular dirt from my yard. i replaced the florosi was using with hps

here's a tidbit i picked up from the real experienced guys. (i read a lot.) when you water the girls they fill up with water, making the stalks more brittle. BEFORE you water, the branchs will be limber, sagging, like the leaves do. somewhere in the middle, just before they start to droop, they should be pliable yet strong. at that time there is less risk of breaking the branch, but it will recover nicely and quickly.
btw, those screws look dangerous - pointy, ya know. put a bit of duct tape on it b4 u cut your hand. good luck.

to anyone who checks this thread...... is there anyone who has tried L.S.T. and topping? if so, what would you say worked out better??? This is my first grow and from seeing my friends' trees, I would recommend this to anyone.

If you have a question, ask.

in my personal experiance i have found that LST and FIM work wonders when they are used in conjunction.

once your main branch has been fully bent and the hormones have been successfully reverted to lower in the branch, you simpley FIM the "main" head, and any heads that come up off if it.

i have only bent - FIM'ed all heads once - let straighten, she harvested 4Oz's....... and they were all hearty "main" colas

my buddy has LST'ed and FIM'ed untill his plant had over 100 countable verticle heads. it harvested 1.2 LBS dry (started indoor, flowered outdoor). he started it in january or early febuary, and he harvested it in october. it was amasing to watch him work.

it works great. let me dig thru some photos and see what i can find. i will take more tonight.
i use stainless steel wire. thin but stiff. i take a piece a couple inches long, bend little hooks on each end. then i hook the top of the plant about 2 nodes down. then i take and bend her aaaaaaaalllllllllll the way over and hook the other end to the bottom of her stalk. it makes a big bow. i nbend then just to the point of the stalk folding. i guess this would be called HST.
others i top and hook the wires to the edges of the pots instead of the main stem. if you top you can hook several branches to the pot. this really opens up the center.

these were topped and spread open.
