indoor grow- in ground or pots

I am building a grow room in unbuilt space under my house. About 7' x 10 or 12' and 83" high. The floor is currently dirt. I am wondering if I should build a large bed using soil over the existing dirt or should I use pots. I was told by a grower friend of mine that if I use the bed idea instead od pots that I will get a better yeild. Anyone have any knowedge on this?

pots will be easier to work with the bed will give you a bigger root structure if your doing large plants the bed might work better because you will have more height space but you could yield as much or more with lots of smaller plants. also with a bed you have to recondition the soil each grow where with pots you just toss the old and start with fresh. I think pots are the better option because if you have problems they will be easier to fix in pots where if there in ground it would be a bitch to fix the problem.

Thanks for the reply. I am trying to get the most out of 12 plants. I know it will be a pain to recondition the soil every time. I might just use larger pots. I want to stay under my script limit for my wife and I. I will have a small veg room too which I can have up to 24 at a time in, but only 12 mature at any one time.

I would highly recommend the use of 5g-9g pots. If you do grow in the ground, tiller the soil and mix in some compost. I think if you use either large pots (i use 9 gallon), or do option 2, you will get approx the same yield.

After more research I have decided to definatley go with pots. I went to hydro shop today to check out the lighting system. I was originally going to use two or even 3 1000w sun systems balasts, but the guy at the shop is recommending 2 600w for my 10' L 7'W 7'H room. He advised that a rail system and moving lights. I am trying to figure out if I will have enough lumens to have the yeild I am looking for out of 12 plants( which is as much as possible). Also I am planning on pouring concrete floor with 12 insets for the pots and built in drain system. Has anyone had a room near this size with some advice on lighting? I could also just use 3 fixed 600w.
