400w hps bulb in 150w hps fixture

ok i got a new bulb and didnt get the ballast the bulb fits and is on is it the same as before? is it better ? will there be a fire lol? please help

Bulbs are matched to the ballast. A higher wattage bulb usually works in a lower wattage ballast and so forth, but you are not getting the ultimate light the bulb is designed to provide. Match um up for best performance. Electricity is not worth messing around with and you are only adding danger by mix matching.

You can use them in a pinch. Its perfectly safe. running a higher rated bulb than your ballast. Never the other way around. I would still get the right bulb though. Spectum might be off because your not drive the bulb with what it wants, and not using it to its fullest potential.
