Did harvest correctly (pics)

A few months ago I finished my first hydro grow, now I'm on my second but I have a question about the harveting and curing process:

Once I harvested I placed the freshly cut cola's in to a cardboard box with a few holes in it. After about a week it was drying nicely but afer about 6 weeks of being stored in the box the grass seemes to loose it's potency!!! Did I mess it up?

I did try and store some in a clean glass jar with a sealed rubber top but after a few days I noticed a little mould growing on the buds. I used to open the top throughout the day to let is breath, but still mould formed.

What I am doing wrong ?

I suspect that you were not drying the bud enough before jarring or you were not leaving them open long enough. When I have fresh bud in the jar I dump out the buds and repack them after I am sure all residual moisture is gone from the jar. After about a week I just burp the jar 2x a day.

Try hanging the buds in the cardboard box next time. A fan set up providing air circulation. Keep them drying for around 10 days in that set up, then when the twig on the bud snaps it should be dry. the bigger buds you may have to dry longer (or if dry on outside and still damp on inside you can put into a plastic bag and that should even the big bud back out - then hang again. After this you should be able to put them in jars (open the jars and waft fresh air in at least twice a day - including turning the buds) then reseal the jar. for best results do this for around 2 weeks. It's a month in total but will give you a nicer taste and smoother smoke. there are loads of threads about drying on this site. Good luck!!!

you have to dry it fo say a week, not 6, until the stems are just about snappable, some like to finnish the "drying" when they do snap, rather than bend. (the time will also vary depending on the size of the stems [they hold mucho water!])

after this, you need to cure it, in sealed jars, burping them daily as you say you've done. you do this for about 4 weeks.

i really don't know enough to comment on the mould, whether that's a rersult of being in the box for 6 weeks, or whether it went into the jar too wet, i can't really say i'm afraid.

I agree with tommyboy, your last buds must have still been damp (probably on the inside which is where your mold will kick off!!!)

420oldschooldj420: i think he had them in the box for 6 weeks, and then put some in jars...that was my interpretation. 6 weeks is a long time for it not to dry though, so must have been in a pretty dank environment/cold/etc/etc...

I'm guessing there was already mold before they were jarred. Why you left a fat cola in box for six weeks is a mystery to me.

looks like some of the buds were touch/resting on each other.....try to keep them seperated and not touching, helps during drying
