Lighting Vs. # of Plants

So soon I'll be beginning my official first project as a grower! Excited I am haha. So I'm thinking of starting out small, Nothing to big due to budget. I've been researching through the 150-400w scene. What I would like to know is,

What is the ideal number of plants for each size light?

I understand the size of the area in which you are growing determines most of the answer to this question but I'm asking in a sense of like, Is a 250 good enough to support 2-3 plants? I hope that makes sense haha, A liiiiittle high.:leaf:

Something else to consider is penetration. More watts means better penetration. A 250 watt HPS can easily flower 2-3 plants. The density of the bud will be better with a 400.

Sweet, That's the answer I'm looking for. My budget is cut short for a little bit, and I didn't wanna jump right into anything big so I figured a 250 would be good after looking through the "250w Club Thread".

That's good to hear. I'm not sure on my selection of seeds yet, still in the process of choosing a good seed bank to buy from. After this grow, I hope to move up in lighting and lessen the problems with my budget, If all goes well!

well as far as far as how many plants.. I would say depends on how you grow.. as a general rule a 400w hps will cover a 3' X 3'.. a 600W 4' X 4'..ect.. so it depends on how many plants you can put in that space with however your growing... you wanting to grow bushes or Popsicle sticks?? growing bushes in 3 gal pots--- 2-4 in a 3' x 3'.. popsicle sticks in 2 liter bottles oh 80 or so in the same 3' X 3' space...

The number of plants only matters if you get busted what you need to worry about is just getting the right size light for the size of the area you want to grow in. Bigger is almost always better so if you can swing it don't get a 250 if you have the space and money for a 400. I'd also say don't get a 400 if you already have it in the back of your mind to grow bigger soon anyway... 600's and 1000's people are generally happy with for a long time, smaller lights often just get replaced one grow later when you decide you want more.

You know in the back of your mind what you want already if you think about it, I'm just saying don't settle it costs you more in the long run.

Thanks for the link bro, Thats a good rule of thumb to go by [I wrote it down haha]. I'll have to look further into that site on lighting for sure

Makes alotta sense. I'm still deciding if I wanna just do a closet grow or if I might go with this Ice Chest i just found today. If lighting is based on the space you are growing in, than I'm considering a 400w now that you guys mention it.
