4x4 or smaller, I also use a one square meter tent with my 600. As for how many plants, it's up to you. Some people grow many small plants but if it were me, I'd grow 6-8 larger plants. Let them bush out by using techniques like topping/FIM'ing and maybe LST or supercropping. You can find more info by using search. Make sure you move the slider to search topic titles only.

Primary light (no natural light) coverages for the different grow light wattages are as follows.
  • 100 watt lights: 1.5FT x 1.5FT growing area
  • 150/175 watt lights: 2FT x 2FT growing area
  • 250 watt lights: 3FT x 3FT growing area
  • 400 watt lights: 5FT x 5FT growing area
  • 600 watt lights: 6FT x 6FT growing area
  • 1000 watt lights: 8FT x 8FT growing area

Increase the size of the pots/containers you will be using.

those are pretty good numbers........might be a 1/2 foot more than i would use
4.5 x 4.5 is perfect for 600
3.5 x 3.5 is perfect for a 400
never used a 1000......but ive heard 6 x 6

why should i increase my container size? i was going to grow in hempy buckets in 2 gallon contaciners., i was thinking of vegging until they were about 6-8 inches then induce flowering. i was hoping to fit 12 in that area is that possible? i want to do four rows of three and do four different strains. i was going to go with white widow(seedsman), skunk 1(sensi seeds), ppp(nirvanna) burmese kush(th seeds), is this a bad idea? i want variety in my garden and yeild im hoping to get 2-3 ounces a plant is that possible?

Hey man, I run hempy and I do it under 600 watters. 4x4 is really your max for flowering if you want good bud and lots of it. you can veg with a 600 over a 6x6 area pretty ok, especially since you are growing small plants. Get square buckets; they fit together more compactly.

Ok how many square buckets should i go with? How much do you yield in hempy?

well, 12 inch square buckets you could fit 16 of those under one 600. I currently have 15 plants under two lights, but they are large. I will yield between 2 and 4 ounces per plant, we will see shortly.

bigger pots means bigger roots means bigger plants. i would go for 10 in 3 gallons. or 6 in 5 gallons. also depends on how tall you want, whats the height of your ceiling, etc? if your ceiling is short, go for more plants in smaller pots. get it?

You should get square pots at any hydro shop, as there are alot of hydro systems use square pots.

Grow Light Area Coverage Your growing area determines what wattage system you should purchase. Determine what size garden you want before you purchase a system. Growing areas can also be expanded by adding additional lights and by using a light mover.

    • 100 watt lights: 1.5FT x 1.5FT growing area
    • 150/175 watt lights: 2FT x 2FT growing area

    • 400 watt lights: 5FT x 5FT growing area
    • 600 watt lights: 6FT x 6FT growing area
    • 1000 watt lights: 8FT x 8FT growing area

Unless you are going to grow dwarf strains 2-gallon pots are to small. I never grow in anything smaller than 5-gallon pots and normally use 7-gallon pots.

If you want GREAT pots that will produce fantastic plants purchase one of the air pruning type pots. Your plants will love you for it and show that love in the form of healthy vigorous growth and bud production. They aren’t cheap but they work and they are worth it.

He has a 7 foot ceiling height limitation. Lights hanging down, 5 gallon buckets, you would have about 4 feet left in between if you are lucky. Lots of people grow very well in small containers. And they aren't growing dwarf strains. Growing large plants requires time, money, patience, skill, an understanding of how to shape and train your plants and some luck. Better to experiment with a small plant grow first. Also, the OP is probably starting a seed grow, so he has to wait to sex plants kill males, blah blah. Much better to kill small plants than large ones you've invested in. You are more likely growing from clones.
