Confused about yields!

Hello fellow growers :)

Within a short timeframe I will move to a big apartment for about 6 months, and I want to take advantage of this, to make as much bud for myself as possible, so I won't depend on buying my weed for a looong time ;)

Question 1
Whenever companies write the 'expected' yield pr m2, do they mean DRIED bud? I was just thinking about it the other day, and I find it pretty relevant, as weed is about 75 percent lighter after drying stage i reckon?

So when companies write: "yield: 550- 600 grams pr m2" do they really mean 140 - 150 grams of dried bud?

Question 2:
I'm gonna grow a in 8 - 10 m2 room and take full advantage.
Any ideas of how much (approx) bud I could produce in 3 months, using hydroponics? I'm not gonna be cheap on the equipment btw.
I'm most likely gonna grow some heavy yielders like Northern Light & White Russian.

Thank you, and have a nice day :)

1. They mean dry bud per square meter

2. Impossible to say without knowing how many plants and amount of light you'll be using.

It means per sq meter outside and under optimal conditions. Indoors will be much less. 6-8 oz from a plant indoors is a fantastic yield and few growers can do that.

Hey Count Reef, keep in mind those figures are in optimal conditions by expert growers. IOW, if GH seeds claims a strain yields a particular amount, that is the max amount their growers could produce with optimal conditions.

Depending on the number of plants you want to grow, you should look into training methods like LST, for a few plants, and SOG, for quite a few plants?

Also, what type of hydroponic system: dwc, aero, tray or bucket drip, ebb&flow/flood&drain?

Are you starting from seed or do you have access to clones? There are plenty of other questions/variables, but honestly CR yield is one of the last things new growers need to be concerned about. Peace

Thanks for the replies. Sorta the answers I expected, but thats why I wrote "approx" :) I do realize it all depends on the hard work put into the entire process!

I'm probably gonna veg under a 600w HPI for a couple of weeks, and then flower under two 600w HPS lamps with cooltube for optimal conditions.

I want to take full advantage of my space (8-10 m2), and build a tent, Jorge Cervantes style :)

People have such different opinions on how much light vs space/number of plants, so I'm kinda unsure of what to do with lighting.

Would I be better of with 2x1000w or would that be overkill? I'm gonna have at least 50 plants (all clones, so 100% females)

hey thanks for the reply, will be back home to answer in a few hours! :)

Just grow something that you find will suit you, have a read about on some seed sites, or ask the site what people have grew and maybe what people would recomend to you, but as people have said its all up to the grower, best of luck to you anyway.

I'm not sure what type of hydroponic system yet. Which would you recommend for beginners? By the way, I have grown in soil once before, so I'm not a complete newbie. I've watched both Cervantes films, and ordered his book.

Could you recommend a good guide for a hydroponics setup? :)

About the amount of plants.. well I was leaning towards SOG, with a lot of small plants, at least 50, probably 100 clones. I won't have to worry about seeds, so it's pretty much 'plug n' play'

But then again I can see the advantage of growing HUGE but fewer plants..

I think that all the seed companys are talking about wet weights unless the plants are grown out doors.I have grown several greenhouse strains and always get the 500 grm that they say that you will but this is always the wet weight never the dry.Don't forget that 75% of the weight when the yeild is wet is water so you will end up with 25%.That is why it is important to keep the lights close so the buds are dence and weigh more.

Hey Count. Unfortunately, I don't think there's a hydroponic system for beginners.

Most experienced growers discourage new ppl from growing hydroponically because of the fast growth rate. They want them to understand the growth patterns & characteristics so they will be able to correctly identify issues and problems in a timely manner when they arise.

With that being said, I think DWC is probably the least complicated system and aeroponics the most difficult. I would recommend going with a top feed drip system. Use 4'x4'/4'8' tray(s) bc of the amount of plants.

Could you recommend a good guide for a hydroponics setup?
Here's is a link that has simple diagrams which explain top feed and bottom feed/ebb&flo systems: http://www.bghydro.com/bgh/static/articles/0806_byos.asp They are easy to setup.

Also, you should search RIU for stinkbud's aeroponic setup. There's a lot of helpful info, and many ppl here are experienced with his system and techniques.

In the end, you need to pick a setup that you are comfortable with and fits your needs. Peace

Again dont take any notice of their approximate yields. This is what they say about Jack Herer

Height: 150-180 cm. Yield: up to 125 gr.

But I have grown 8ft Jacks that yielded over 3lbs each. That just goes to show that its all about how you grow it and your time frame.

i hear you there. more veg time = more buds
