Ok looking to do the cheapest closet setup. Can someone please tell me what to get and where online I can order it. Heres what I have. A nice size Sun System Dome. Has Hole in one side for lighting and not sure about the hole in the otherm (looks like it can be punched out. I have one MH 1000 watt bulb (pretty sure I won't use this until flowering. even then it might be too much for my 2-4 plants.) I also have a timer thats about it. I really have no clue as to what to get or hoe it goes together. I am looking for a cheap setup that I can maintain. Self watering fertilizing etc. Just need to know how to get the thing setup, hardware, ventilation etc. Does the closet need to be opened allot for air, fans, exhaust? I am also really wanting to invest in someting to keep the smell down. One again I need some serious help fro a buddy that is sucessful at this. I am ultra poor, but found a few nice pieces and will put a few bucks into it. But I want to do it right the first time no room or time for failure. Thanks.

first you start by cleaning the room head to toe

then paint it with FLAT white Matte paint

after you have that done then work on your power situation, once thats finish move onto your ventilation.

after vent, move onto air flow

after aflow move onto your light system

once all these are done you are ready to grow.

if your quick you could always start germing your seeds now so when they finally sprout you will be ready for them

i recommend getting/making a small cfl fixture to use for your seedling stage and maybe even the veg stage.

this is what im doing and it works great
take a storage box and cut a hole in the top to fit your light.
then in the back cut a hole for your fan or if you dont have one cut holes on the sit for ventilation
put your plants inside and it works great

Post the dimensions of your space, and maybe a few pics. That will give people something to work with when giving you ideas.

Airflow will be a high priority, especially if you need to implement proper smell control. Is there anywhere you can intake and extract air from your closet?

it would help if people knew what size space your wanting to setup and how much finished product you expect to achieve buddy. also- do you have any preference for what technique you want to use for grow.

a 1000watt hps would illuminate a 8ft by 8ft floor space so if you have less space than that, heat will be a major problem, so as i said we need to know dimensions and perhaps how warm it gets in the summer and winter wherever you are.

befor anything else, you need to read, then read some more, then ask a few questions and read some more. a 1000 watt MH bulb needs a ballast & is used for veg & not flower& would be over kill for a space less than 4x4-meaning it would be very hard to keep temps under control
not trying to discourage you but if you want to do it right and not waste money, you need to make good decisions based on knowledge. that will come with reading.most growbooks are good but you can save money by reading all the stickies here. that should keep you busy & give you a good understanding of what you need
good luck...mc

ok buddy, heres a mock room that measures 1.2m x 1.2m x 2m high, i would put 16x 15 ltr pots in there and hand water them (cheap option). then have an 8inch inline fan with ducting, you can get the kind that has fiber type loft lagging to keep the noise down, attatch a carbon filter to one end of the inline fan to keep smells in check then run 5 or 6 meters of ducting through a hole in the roof or the closet door to get rid of any heat build up, i would put a fan speed controller on the 8" fan and run it on its lowest setting. you will need an air intake, you could just cut a hole in the bottom of the closet door and just let the air get sucked in from the vacume created by the 8" fan extracting, or you could put a 5" inline fan into the bottom of the closet door to blow more air into the space. i would run either a 600watt hps dual spectrum bulb or a 400 watt one, depending on what temp it gets to with the closet door shut. the temp needs to be 25c with the light on 28.5c is acceptable and the room humidity would be ok at 55% through the whole grow although it is best at 70% with the light onon veg growth and then when you flower for the first 2 weeks after that i would extract more air to bring the humidity down to 45% with the light on. use a dehumiifier when the light is off in the final few weeks of flowering to prevent mould in your erm fruit.

Ok here are some facts that may help me get more valuable adive from you all. Ok first my closet is 4 feet wide by 2 feet deep. Above it is an attic, below a crawlspace. I am looking at a small grow of 2 to 4 plants. I have a sun system reflector hood, I would like to house my light in. I am thinking it best to purchase a 400 or 600 MH for flowering. Just need a source whatever is used to power and get that light up in the hood. How much flourecent light and size tubes will be need for the initial setup, bulb type (cool white etc?) I hope these things will help gain more advice as I am ready to learn.

you could use a 400watt hps light in this space but heat will build up so you WILL need to buy an inline fan to move the hot air out. please dont use a MH light for flowering as they are in the blue light spectrum and should only be used to veg your plants, you need the red light spectrum for flowering to get the best results.

the most economical thing to do is to buy a dual spectrum bulb which is good for the whole growing process as it has blue and red light spectrums. if you do a search on google and look hydroponics stores then look for 400watt universal hps lights you will find what your looking for. a light system consists of a ballast which plugs into the powerpoint on your wall, the shade which is wired with a connection to plug into the ballast and a connection for your bulb to screw into. if your shade is not wired up in this way then it is useless.

man it is hard to find dual spectrum bulbs if you are in the us, it seems that the market is flooded with MH rubbish. they may be called universal hps bulbs over in the us.

you could use flourecents but they will not produce as much as a 400watt hps dual spectrum bulb. the flourecents are used for raising cuttings mainly. here in the uk we can get the compact t5 which comes with the blue spectrum bulbs as standard but we can purchase the red spectrum bulbs that are used in the flowering phase, so you just swap bulbs when you go into flower mode. hps bulbs are the best though as they have more lumens and are more intense.
