Let's talk Subcool

This is a great thread ... sharing the knowledge and experience with TGA Subcool gear. I was attracted to Subcool's stuff because I luved his photography initially, and then his breeding upon further research and resading. I have packages of Vortex, Chernobyl, Agent Orange, MissMystery, and DairyQueen. I only have room for maturing out 4-6 plants at the most. My current grow has three males (Chernobyl, Vortex, Agent Orange) and two females (MissMystery and DairyQueen) - the males have been placed outdoors miles away. I am very excited about the two females. and I will be collecting pollen sacs from the males (I also have a male BlackDomina from SensiSeeds).
male Pollen doesnt stay viable for longer than a few days or at most for a week...At least from what I have read.

interesting and thanks for sharing that info. I have been able to harvest my top44 lady .... and made room for the two teenagers .... DQ and MM. The males are slow developing in the cooler wet weather we have had since they got put outside. They are doing VERY well though. It might be that the timing becomes perfect with the advancement of these femms ..... I understand that the threee to four week flowering period is the optimum fertilizing period? I would appreciate it if someone confired that with me ...I have not done this before.:o

I thought I'd kick this in - Subcool doesn't give free seeds with his orders but some of his seeds have two viable sprouts! I germed 3 seeds each of JTR, PB & JB and got 4 sprouts each of JTR and PB. I transplanted to another cup and one is growing normally and the other is small with slow growth but it looks healthy.

Germination Ratio:

11 plants / 9 seeds = 1.22 plants per seed.

LOL!

freaky indeed .... as nature can sometimes be .... just think in another fifteen years or so yu'll be able to do a genome scan and find out a little of the story beneath that genetic expression? .... hahahahha!

I had one that sprouted and both ends were connected to the seed embryo.. It looked like one of those kiddy suckers from yrs ago .. Not "that" xtreme, but it basically looked like one because the taproot grew out of each end in a kind of a "loop".. It had no end.. It went from one side into the other.. It was freaky....It reminded me of one of theese suckers..

Hey dude ~ Pollen will keep for up to a month in the freezer. I've cut the tops off the males that have the pollen plums, put them in a double cup of water, and milked them for over a month.
I take two plastic cups, fill one with about an inch of water, poke a hole in the bottem of the second one large enough for the stem, poke the stem down through the hole, resting the second cup into the first with the end of the stem in the water. They can live for a long time like this. Hope this might help you? I've done it, it works. Collect the pollen as it falls into the second cup!! Store it in a zip lock.
To use the pollen, tie a small chicken feather to a thin stick, dip the feather in the pollen, over the bud, tap the stick causing the pollen to fall onto the bud. Brushing is lame, doesn't cover as well, how did "brushing" ever get started?
Use the feather, you'll be doing it like Soma, and old school others.

"been growing 35 years and never seen a double sprouting seed. What the freak is that about?"

"so it was a real Siamese twin - the fertilization popped two heads ... what a fluke?"

.

I almost missed it, thought the first was a broken piece of root. I've never seen it before either, and I get two Subcool twin sets from 2 seeds of 9 seeds! And from two different strains. Not matching twins though, one seedling from each seed grows strong, the other is slow and weak.

Here's a pic of the two weaker twins a few weeks ago - they're growing slow, definitely not something I'll keep unless the smoke is unreal. One seedling should make it eventually, not sure about the other. I'll take a pic of the two seedlings with their twins tonight, show the difference in height.

"Somewhere I saw where Subcool uses flower 6light/18dark for business or personal grows with geat success and I can't find it? Can someone help me with this note/comment? I started a thread in the Adv. cult. section and want experienced thoughts on ths subject"

Hey Relaxed

I read his thread a while back ... give me some time to dig it up.

Basically he says that plants absorb 80-90%(?) of the light they need in 6 hours and we'll get almost as much volume as we would with 12/12. More advanced growers may add CO2 to bring the yield up to a 12/12 level. I haven't tried it yet but I have a light mover with an 8' x 3' garden area so I'm not sure if I'm giving each half of the garden 6 hours light during 12/12 or if I could drop back to 6 or 8 hours without loosing much yield or potency.

Here's some stuff I found on Subcool:

.

So who the hell is Subcool and what is he doing here?
Thats a long story but we will just get the details up.

I have been online for a very long time teaching people how to grow and handing out advise. The concept for Overgrow was pretty much thought up at a party at my house when Skoosh, Shabang and myself came up with the idea to create a weed site to show off our buds and share knowledge and back then genetics.

Those guys had the know how to put the site up and I posted like 12000 pictures and we were up and rolling.

I had done some amateur breeding and created a strain called JCB and another called BlueMoon and I sent some of the seeds to BOG. I had a run in with Leo and spend some time eating ramen soups

Bog used the beans to create Lifesaver and bluemoon rocks combining them with a Nirvana f3 Bubbleum.

So OG went down and I starting writing articles for magazines like Hightimes, Heads, Skunk, and Weedworld and now Treating Yourself, a medical cannabis magazine.
My photo is featured on the cover of Big Book of Buds 3. I also bred the pink strain called Sputnik that the cover featured.

I moved out west became a legal caregiver and now I am a succesfull Photographer and writer with a book due out in Sept published by the grandpa of Cannabis Ed Rosenthal.
The Books Title is "Dank" and features 40+ strains and the stories behind them it has some amazing pictures inside.

My Passion now is teaching others to grow there own medicine and do so safely and legally. My threads focus on Organic soil gardening with no chemicals and small numbers of plants to stay within state guide lines.

This forum will be dedicated to how to threads and methods to increase potency and quality of your home grown medicine.
We will be teaching how lots of after harvest stuff like Tinctures and Edibles as many med patients can't smoke a lot of cannabis.

If you have any questions just make a post and I will do my best to help but please read my basic how to threads before you ask me how to germinate pot seeds. I will build comprehensive threads with lots of pictures.

A Great place to start is Super Soil 101 is covers my basic methods of growing from start to finish.

Thanks to Seymorebuds for introducing me to this site

i had heard he was a professional photographer,it is probably why the plants you grow of his seeds never have the same color as the pics.i see a lot of seed vendors that have great genetics, but don't know how to take tantalizing pictures.to me i ask why not.I mean a pic is worth a 1000 words.if you can work the lights and shadows and the multitude of filters with a nice macro you can make anything with resin look good,as long as you take a pic of the frostiest parts.that's why i say subcool is a master promoter of the seed game, bogs never had a bad pic leave his grow room.an example is space queen grown many times,it was frosty but so were everything else, then you look at bogs pics and you say i want that, then you realize you already do.
