I bought 3 emergency blankets from walmart that are 6 ft long and 3 ft wide. They were $3.11 each and they work awesome.

for a few plants growbox you only need one emergency blanket. its probably the cheapest thing you could get for your grow op

Burn spots, i hear everyone saying that but who has burnt there plant by using it?
see i was told use the dull side by kind of a reliable source but wasnt sure thats y i came here to ask. i attempted the shinny side on my current crop im doing with 16 fluorescents and it started burning the tips so i took them out now trying dull side on a single plant im trying in my closet with just a few cfls all being 23 to 26watt each

It wouldn't just burn only the tips of your plant though, cfl's only put out very little heat so i carn't see the reflection causing heat spots.

Infact, i'm going to rig up a test now.

That's really the whole point! The answer is nobody. This is just an old myth that has been blindly passed-on forever (better safe than sorry). Use your brains for a second - in order for foil to cause "hotspots", all the little crinckles would have to focus the light at a single point like a magnifying glass. I suppose that "in theory", it is possible (if you worked at it really hard). But in practice, it just isn't very friggin' likely!

I have used foil in the past, for "experimental purposes" and temporary "fix-it" situations. It works - just not very well! That's the real reason not to use it, it's only about 45-55% reflective.
