Power Strip CFL Fixture

I saw a number of grows using these power strip CFL fixture for VERY successful micro and slightly larger personal use grows. One of the usually less than mentioned bonuses of these power strip fixtures is you can customize like crazy!! (if you're a DIY nut like myself, that means fun) Say a lone branch started growing towards a light... no big deal, hop over a socket in the fixture. Got a dark corner? Put a higher wattage CFL in the socket nearest. Just a lot of options, and i like that.

So all in all, they seem pretty cool and I am in need of a light solution for my AG cabinet (link in sig). So off I went to pick up some bits and pieces to get a pair of these knocked out!

First let me introduce you to your new best friends...

The setup I'm going with is more targeted at flowering, hence the big 2700k bulbs and the smaller 6500k.

I'm using both, because from research I discovered that with CFL you want a slightly bigger spectrum than with HID. Something about the efficiency of the bulbs and the way the light dissipates and this and that... not the point we're building a fixture. Just my two cents, if you're going to do a Vegetative lighting rig, go with bigger 6500k and maybe no 2700k at all... I veg'd CFL with only the 6500k and did just fine!

Moving right along...

these are a bit of a pain to find, so a heads up, skip the home improvement retailers and head straight to Wal-Mart haha. I hate to promote the evil beast, but dammit they had the shit I needed!!!

So pretty simple from here, plug in the adapters, screw in the bulbs, hook up to your timer! That's all... hope this gives some anxious to get going growers some ideas beyond expensive HID lighting. It's cheaper than you think to get started!

here is the setup i was talking about building when i first started this thread. i have 20 26w cfl's in it and it is less than half full (48 is max).the two exhaust pipes are in a temporary location. i will drill 2 4" holes in the top of the 1"x12" and hook the pipes there to draw out heat. the cabinet is a 1985 rca 52" big screen tv that i gutted. if family comes over i turn it off, close up the back and put it against the wall. just say its broken...haha

yes i will only use 48 in the winter...righn now with 20 im having heat issues. i got the temps down to 81(night time). hopefully when i reroute the exhaust it will improve. i will turn the lights off from noon to 6(hottest part of the day).

yeah all i can say is get a fan on both ends one goin in rite at the lights and one goin out from the lights separately aside from your intakes itll help a lil bit and bigger blowers will help instead of the smaller fans for sure .... lol i even made a tiny swamp cooler thing for my grow using frozen water bottles it dropped the temps a few degrees

This thread is basically the same as my thread... https://www.rollitup.org/do-yourself/102311-how-i-built-my-upgradeable.html

How could these details be hard to find? I think there is two other threads on the subject as well.

its cus the search engine for the site sucks we asked for it to be changed where you dont have to search by keywords when you search for cfl refelctor you get 2000 threads for each word lmao but i agree a sticky for the threads that are informantive and have plenty of responses should be in order:o

I agree. This has been a good thread. Lots of people have posted their CFL fixtures in here, along with myself. Also lots of people have thrown out some really good ideas.

Well, I may as well toss my current one in here

I keep changing it up. I just took the 2 2700s and made them 6500s and then put a 2700 on another line and have it laying between the two sprouts

EDIT: you can't tell too well in the picture, but there are 2 2700k and then 2 6500k for EACH sprout. So I have 4 6500s in there

Hey Shackleford,
I noticed the 42 watt CFLs you are using are the same ones that I almost bought from walmart.

Only problem is, the number on the front of the box, 2700, is for lumens, not color temp. Do you happen to know the color temperature of these?

I would love to buy some if I knew they were soft white/2700k!
