refrigerator grow

Ok so my first plan was to grow in my storm cellar over winter but it floods every time it rains. So now I have a broken refrigerator in my shed. Its a newer whirlpool side by side refregerator/freezer. I would cut the middle devider out. Dimensions are 25"x30"x55". Thought I would drill holes for exhaust fans. Then mount a 250 watt hps light in it. Thought it would be enough for a couple plants. Any comments?

nah if he has sum type of ventilation in there he should be good because the cfl's don't produce as much heat!
so as long he can ventilate in there is would be ok

you should run a cool tube through it.

Well I was going to use a 250watt HPS light. But any other light suggestions would be helpful. I was thinking of making some sort of homemade cool tube. Keep them comin boys.

Well why don't you fix the fridge and put a different thermostat in it and have it cool itself. Then you do not have to worry about heat. I bet if you spent a weekend tinkering and using google you could have it running and keeping your grow at whatever temp you desired. I have always wanted to do it, but honestly it seems like a lot of work for such a small space. It is a really cool idea though. I thought it would be great to do with a mini fridge for 1 plant or maybe a couple of lowryders. Perfect for a dorm situation. Seeing as i am no where near an age where I am going to be living in a dorm I have not followed through.

forum I used to hang at had a guy who was making growboxes out of old fridges. he used 250 hps w/ a cooltube & it worked
most of his pictures showed the old style w/ a freezer on top, he set that up as a veg rm w/ either CFLs or T8 utube floros
I want to say he was pulling 2-3 oz a month once he got it dialed in. but my stoner memory ain't what it was
