Jiffy Peat Pellets Suck..

have any of you used those damn things to try to sprout ur seedlings??

they are not working for me.. i put three bubblelicious beaners that had a taproot start n nothing its been two daze. am i being impatient or what??:o

the i planted on in a peat moss cup n it came up the next day..

i have the beaners in totall darkness with heat under them n still nuttin'..

what do you all think about this shit?
what should i do take them outta the peat pellets n put them into the peat moss cups??

ANY HELP PLEASE WOULD BE GREAT....:clap:

I always start them in a beer cup and a soilless mix. I don't like the pellets as they seem very inconsistent for watering. I start the seeds in paper towel and then move to cup. I have tried several ways and the beer cup seems the easiest, no soaking, just fill with dirt, get wet, poke hole, put in sprout.

i use Bio degradable Pellet's to root clones / seedling's

Seed's sprouted and my clones are rooting :)

my pellets look a little different and there smaller.

i would leave it in the pellet and see what happens :o

Mr I Can Do That For Half
Peat cups, pots and anything peat sucks. they are messy, hold to much water and change ph germ them and then use simple soil ina regular pot or use rockwool or rapid rooter cubes.Avoid peat

i bought a 24 pack w/the case/dome thing, i had 24 outta 24 sprouts deer ate most of them right after i took em outside and they were all random bagseed but i only used the best beaners of the like 200 i have (ive been collecting my seeds and having all my friends save any they got for me). i like em over all. it does seem to take longer in the pucks i must admit too though, some took like a week to sprout and others 3-4 days.

I've experienced the opposite. My paper-towel germinated seedlings would not sprout when planted in peat potting mix. So I tried another batch with jiffy pellets and 3/3 sprouted after maybe a day and a half later. I've just planted 2 white widow and 2 mama thai germinated seeds into more jiffy pellets about an hour ago so we'll see how those go.. I'm pretty sure they'll be alright seeing that there weren't any problems with the first batch.

If anything, it tends to be quite sensitive in terms of water retention. I found that with the pellets inside a box wrapped in clingfilm stay moist and don't need any more water than a few mistings for upto 2 days. But without the clingfilm keeping humidity in and the fan blowing across, the top layer quickly became crusty within a few hours and the pellet was a lot lighter than it was before meaning that it lost quite a bit of water very fast. However, I'm blaming this more on the super low humidity where I live (25-30%).

EDIT: Seems like others are having more problems with it being too moist! I guess it depends on your environment then, as the only 'problem' I had was that it dried too quickly, which is easily solved by watering more..
Then again my humidity is very low and i had a fan blowing against them too.

Anyway.. pics of one of my bagseed seedlings in a jiffy pellet, planted a week ago and sprouted a day after. This particular one actually had problems getting its shell off until I manually helped it out a couple days ago. Stretched its leaves out and has thrived since and is growing its second pair of leaves.

get the ones with the second tray that keeps the puck above the bottom like half an inch up off the bottom fill with water till right under your puck, keep humidity dome on, keep the watering so it stays just under the pucks and middle tray.
a heating pad would be great to get also

Don't give up, give them at least another day, if not two bro. 1-2 days is a minimum for it to sprout wouldnt u say

Forgot if it was mention but figure just toss it out. make sure you put the tap root down and no more then 1/4 inch of dirt on top of the seed or its hard to sprout quickly

I just find that sometimes seeds go too far down. and then its theres too much force for a seed to sprout.

Im neutral with pellets.... I like rockwool but if you do jiffy pellets right they can be good.

Yeah I had some bad luck with them. even though the grow in my sig was started with them.... It sucked. I dont wanna use them again.

Id rather go rockwool next time or just put them in the dirt in a cup
if youre gonna grow with soil. I got like 30 un-used jiffy pellets.
And they will more than likely remain that way.

ya i have quite a few also but they did ok for my clones so i will use them for that..:leaf:
