Oh. My. God.

I can't believe it! Roots have begun to poke through on several of the net pots!

At this rate, we will have complete root systems in no time.

Ph: 6.0

PPM: 990

Temp: 88 f

Humidity: 50%


The evaporation pot didn't seem to work very well. Temperature is actually higher, and humidity stayed the same (How can that be I wonder?)

Today I:

Drained 20 gallons of water,

Added 20 gallons of Reverse osmosis pure water.

Added 20 Capfulls of Foxfarm "Big Bloom"

Added 20 Capfulls of Foxfarm "Grow Big"

Added 2 Capfulls "Superthrive"

I hope nothing gets burned...But I am following Foxfarm's feeding advice, and I'm running at about 2/3 strength.

God I luv this set up man. You are gonna have some serious monsters on your hand.:shock::-D

In dealing with high temps you have to do 2 things. Get hot air out of the grow area while replacing it with cooler air. Then, wait and see how the grow environment stabilizes so you can hit as close to 75 as possible. If you don't have cooler air (cooler than 75 that is) to pull in their from somewhere in the environment, then you have to look at fabricated cold air (ie air conditioner). That option may suck as those can get pricey (especially portables).:cry:

That being said, you CLEARLY put alot of time, effort, work, and $ into this grow. :mrgreen: The other option is to try and wait the temps in your area out. 88 degrees is not the end of the world if you can keep this to the veg state. But if your looking at hot temps in your area for the next month and a half, you probably need to do something about it.

I feel your pain. I got the same situation with my current grow before adding any heavy lighting.:cuss:

If you have AC anywhere near your grow space, think about venting some (not all...but some) of that wonderfully cool air into the grow space.

This is your time to be MacGuyver bossman.:idea::-P

Lots of trial and error in these spots so don't get too discouraged.

Don't be afraid to google up a storm with topics like "home made air conditioner" and "cooling spaces" and stuff. There's gotta be someone in Africa or South America that one day woke up, said "I'm sick of this f'n heat",and came up with some cheap way of lowering temps by 13 degrees.

Try to cool your water down before adding any to those rez's to try and compensate. Maybe look up "dry ice" and some of it's cooling properties. It's relatively cheap, long lasting, and every time I'm at a bar that's too hot, I get cooled down once they start sprayin that shit.

Overall, they're lookin pretty good boss. Keep it up.

August 4th

My personal alarm bells went off today when I noticed the tips of the leaves are curling (See pic below), a surefire sign that things are too hot.

I moved the House fan into the center of the room so it hits the plants better, and I moved the desk fan to the wall, cut a hole, and made it a new intake fan. Then I moved the light-cooling duct closer to the exhaust fan...and guess what? 5 degrees cooler!

Roots are already looking very hairy in some of the pots.

Ph: 6.0

PPM: 930-950

Temp: 80 f

Humidity: 58%


Added 2 capfulls superthrive, will be adding nothing else for several days.

Day 11
August 4th

Leaves still curling to stay cool, but the temperature is holding steady at least. As the days grow shorter it should continue to go down. I am slowly (an hour a day) moving the main lighting cycle back so that the lights will mostly be on during nighttime hours.

Ph: 6.0

PPM: 950

Temperature: 80 f

Humidity 60%

Pot 5 is seriously small compared to the others, But I'm not sure why that is. If it continues, I am going to have to transpose it like I did with pot 1.

Roots continuing to look great.

Tough to tell from pic but sounds like the start of nute burn. I forget if we're talking "from seed" or "from clone" with this grow. If from seed, 900ppm id definately too high.

Placed some additional mylar today, also having pump problems...could the works be gummed up? Not sure how to fix it... Might have to place a call to the company...damn clay pellets.

Anyone know if the growth is where it should be at this stage?

Sadly my wad is a little light at the moment. In a perfect world, I would LOVE my own RO unit...LOVE.

Really great link though. I could learn a thing or two from that guy. Don't know why he went easy on the lighting though...with a few more bulbs he could challenge both God and Nature.

Hey wassup I'm growing some Trainwreck as well. About two weeks from harvest. She is very stretchy but produces some nice fat spear shaped colas. Can I ask for a pic without the HPS light? If you just hold a piece of cardboard up to block the light and use the flash on the cam we can see the more natural colors. I wanna see how dark green your leaves are. My Trainwreck is very sensitive to nutes and when the leaves get dark green you need to back them down or they will burn. She is a light feeder compared to all my other strains.

I do see a lot of dark green, but all of the new development is light green. I have had the privilege of seeing the mother for these clones, and she is also dark green...Hmm...I wonder why the Leaves are so broad, if this is a Sativa dominant strain I mean...

August 9th

Fixed the faulty water pump, it was jammed up by some clay pellets which I am SURE did some kind of permanent damage.

Next time, something else as a medium.

Temp: 80

Humidity: 60%

Did some leaf removal, wonder why pots 2 and 6 still seem so stunted?

I've seen both the grows over at icmag and I'm very interested in this system. What kind of grow medium would you suggest to fix this problem:confused:. Hate to say it but I got the money in the account to write the check I just want to wait for a couple more people to use it to get their likes and dislikes before I go and put down 1300-1600 on a shiny dwc setup. Do you think the system is worth the extra money so far? ?Have you ever used a regular homemade dwc recirculating system? I know there are some diffrences just wondering if those differences are worth 1000 bucks or not?

Well, ya see... I am constantly torn between my greed and my Laziness. When I saw this system I knew that I could make something just as good on my own for less money...but it would take time and labor.

Also I am really happy to have "Tech support" on this system. If something goes really wrong, i can just call the company. I lost the instruction booklet, and they sent me a new one, no questions asked.

Whenever I hear a question like this though, I always wonder:

Is it even a good idea to let people know how well you are doing?

After all, I was inspired by the success stories on sites like this one, it's what got me GROWing. What if this journal leads to more people growing weed, thus more competition? Eventually more and more people growing can lead to one of two things:

A: Crackdown (Which would be Bad).

B: Legalization (Which would be REALLY bad).


My only solace is knowing that most stoner buddies I have are really bad at actually growing weed. We need to keep acting like growing perfect marijuana is really fucking hard (and it sure seems kinda hard to me), or when this shit all gets legalized in five years, and every Tom-Dick and Harry with a 5 gallon bucket and an air pump is growing Grand-Daddy-Purple-Romulan-Cheese, we're out of the fucking game mates.

Make hay while the sun shines and quit while you're ahead. The Kennedy family made its money selling moonshine, and our prohibition is almost over.

Or maybe I've been smoking too much weed...if there is such a thing.

P.S.

I'm thinkin' lava rocks next time.
