how many lumens is the hps? how many lumens does each cfl give off? i'd figure out which is putting out more light than the other. also, you veggin right now or flowering? how about hps overhead and sidelighting by cfls?

why are you name calling you little prick? no reason to act like an idiot, even though you are. as an example, i have an overhead light(in my avatar) that gives off 17,000 lumens. if your theory were correct, it'd be 1 big fucking bulb! but it's not, it's 3 seperate bulbs which ADD up to 17,000 lumens! you fucking moron. the manufacturer of the lights obviously isn't as "bright" as you..... go eat a bowl of dicks and watch your mouth when you speak.

Hey man, this shit is hard to dumb down enough so dipshits like you can understand. the answer to if they add is both yes AND no, but more to the point is it just doesnt matter at all. using lumens is easy but not correct when talking about plants, it is a scale for humans.

who said anything about spectrum?
Not all the light from a HPS is usable throughtout the cycle of a plant, therefore it is not using 100% of light spectrum being emitted, need to be taking into account for the different stages of growth

an hps will work for all stages. this is a pointless question. i would take one 70w hps over a smaller cfl, but i would take 6 cfls over a 70w hps. so it can go either way. but if oyu are so worried about it then do both. cfls are cheap and easy to add to an hps set up
