Problem with big fan

I have a pretty large round fan, prolly about 10-12 in diameter and i have a homemade reducer hooked up to it down to a 4 inch vent covered w a homemade carbon filter. Im just wondering if anyone else has had the problem of the fan blowing air out of the front and the back? lol its really powerful but when its running instead of sucking air in thru the back it blows air out of the back... and the front.

sounds like your reducer is keeping the air from blowing through, or your carbon filter needs to be larger to allow that much air through it, or the fan may not be designed to function the way you're using it, but a picture of the fan would help big time. if it isn't an inline fan, chances are it's just not designed to force air through like an inline fan, but i may be wrong. can't tell without a picture or some more info. goodluck!

Like andy said, it seems your either using a non- pressure rated fan, or the wrong kind of fan. Also having a 12" fan reduced to 4" is going to wreck your fan, it puts too much pressure back on it and will burn out the motor very quickly. Go with a smaller inline fan and you should be golden. Good luck.

ahh yeah its just one of those normal fans no inline fan or anything, prolly def not made for that purpose just figured i did somethin wrong lol.
