i've been battling these little bastards since day one of this grow.

so last night i got a little blazed and passed out just after eating a bowl of honeycomb. there were about 5-6 pieces of cereal and 1/3 bowl of milk left in the bowl.

i woke up this morning and there were about 25 drowned gnats! i've tried everything... sticky cards, double sided tape, apple vinegar, and all with absolutely zero results.

sure as hell, i prepared two more bowls of honeycomb milk and have already caught about 50 more gnats today!

i got maybe 2-3 gnats the entire three weeks i used sticky cards and tape.

if anybody else is having problems, i suggest you try this out and report back!

i have no idea if the milk fat percentage matters. for the record, this was skim milk.

i also have no idea if it works without any cereal, or if it works as well with other cereals.

hell, maybe chocolate milk is just the bomb dizzle.

i have some research to do. :D

this continues to be freakin awesome.

i set out two new honeycomb milk traps last night, and i've already pulled in another 30+ gnats.

somebody else try this!

do you let your soil completely dry out? they like to lay eggs in moist soil....let it dry completely out and it will kill the eggs.

i get so many gnats because i have about 20 cacti and 25 other houseplants. they're all on different watering schedules and its impossible to let them -all- dry out at once.

believe me, i water as absolutely little as i possibly can and they're still a problem.

hopefully they won't be for much longer though :D

That's awesome! Maybe they're attracted to the sponginess of the soggy cereal? They like to lay their eggs in stuff like moss, so maybe it's the texture that attracts them? They come to lay their eggs and drown in the milk.

I had some success with a dish full of overripe, really juicy, smooshed-up cantaloupe. They couldn't stay away from it! If anyone has cricket problems, those sticky mouse traps work better for catching crickets than they do for catching mice =)

Why is it that the best pest control methods are usually discovered by accident?

Wow this is some really useful info thanks for it. I wonder how it would play out in a pretty hot grow op. I got temps reaching 99 I wouldn't want to check on my plants to find soured milk. My grow tent is 2x2x5'3" and I'm running a 400w so its POUNDING out some heat in there.
