So after putting in two more cfl's into my cardbord box the temp reached 90 degrees. I have 2 6500k 23W cfl's and 2 that are 2700K. Plus 2 17W tubes. Not sure the spectrum..one of them is like ultra violet? Anyways none of the bulbs are directly touching the box. Anybody think this might burn down the apartment?

In order for your box to combust you will need a lot more heat then that. just be sure they are not touchingt the box. if your going to do a grow in there vent and fan it your plants will not like temps that high.

It is highly unlikely that fluorescent bulbs touching the sides of your box will cause a fire. But I agree with paranoid 420, you won't have plants for long with 90 degree temps. Good luck my friend.

I don't know man, those CFLs get pretty freaking hot. I've got a blister on my arm right now from rubbing up against one of my bulbs. As long as the bulbs themselves aren't touching the box (or anything else) you should be fine. Definitely going to need some fan action in there to cool things down, too.
