Growing Fuk Ups

i was updating my journal and i started to think about my career as a grower.. how much i have improved since the beginning.. how much im my knowledge is still expanding.. and it got me to thinking that i would start a post with my greatest growing fuck ups.. be it my fault, someone elses, or whatever the case may be.. partly because they were all learning experiences in one way or another.. but also because i am encouraging you to write yours in as well.. its nice to know the same things can happen to the best of us.. especially for new growers.. it helps them relax and not feel like "its them"... i guess in a way i think its encouraging to everyone and makes everyone feel better.. anyways hope my fuck ups make some of you feel a little better.. or give you a good laugh.. or whatever the case may be...

my very first grow was cut short due to some asshole kids breaking in my house and stealing my plants.. they didnt break in because they knew i had them.. they broke in and just happened upon them.. the bitch part was they were only 2 weeks into flower.. 4 beautiful female blue berrys and 12 crystales... the kids who took them chopped and hung them that night... yeah.. they didnt even finish flowering them.. hell they hadnt even started flowering really... i found out who they were and shit was dealt with appropriately to say the least...

my second grow i got root rot on a few of my plants from over watering.. i also think it had to do with the guano i was using.. but thats another story.. point is i killed the bitches from over watering and killing the roots...

my third grow was succesfull.. but i had mites.. and it was a fight the entire way... i didnt know about neem until i realized how bad the problem was... then i searched and found neem and found my solution.. but by the time the neem arrived the problem was so bad it took almost 6 weeks to clear up.. and the plants suffered.. i got a harvest.. but it was pitiful..

my fourth grow i made the great mistake of putting multiple plants in a pot... long story short i had a male that hid himself well and i didnt catch him until it was too late.. and he sat in front of the oscilating fan i had going.. so i ended up with a mostly seeded crop.. everything had seeds.. some worse than other.. but those that weren't seeded too bad ended up with good smoke on the back half of them...

my 5th and 6th grows were great...

my 7th i had to move midway through due to flooding.. which caused mold and shit bad.. so i had to build a new grow room and move the grow all in 3 days.. and again this grow i had to plant multiple plants per pot.. mainly because it was winter time and i couldnt get soil anywhere... or at least didnt look hard enough... i was more concerned with just moving them.. anyways thats all besides the point.. the harvest was good.. i ended up with some hermies from a shit load of stress.. but i know the harvest would have been much better than it would have had they all had their own pots.. also i had to harvest early which sucked..

that brings me to this grow where while i was constructing a dividing wall in my new grow room between what is the veg room and the soon to be flower room i had to deal with 90 to 100 degree air temps... not to mention the reservoir temps of at least that.. which was feeding sprouts that had been germinated in a clone room that wasnt ready.. my lights werent working right.. i didnt have the rooting medium figured out.. i need more rooting space than the cubes allowed.. and thats all due to the fact i was switching from soil to hydro and couldnt set the hydro system up until the soil plants were done....... well before i confuse you too much ill make it much easier... the sprouts were beat the fuck up from heat stress and lack of light... plus they were being fed with 85+ degree water... until i purchased and aqua chiller and new fan i about killed my plants... which was a week or two... then if that wasnt enough my drain pump froze in my ebb and flow system and it stayed flooded for 2 hours before i walked in and caught it... this killed 1 of my plants from root rot.. almost killed the rest of my plants from nute burn... did kill 1 sprout i had from nute burn.. and i had to pull 2 plants from being males... so instead of 6 large healthy 5 week vegged plants and 6 smaller 3 week vegged plants i have 1 healthy 5 week vegged plant, 1 almost dead but coming back 5 week vegged plant, and 10 sprouts/clones that i just put down.. and i have to flower them all at the same time.. so another 4 weeks when i could have been a week away from flowering had shit not failed on me..

well that about sums it up... not everything has been my fault.. ive had some bad luck along the way.. but shit happens... now that i have got all that shit out of the way im looking forward to a nice harvest here in a couple months... feel free to add your stories in if you want..

On my current grow, i REALLY fucked up my ph. over using PH down, when i could probably have been just fine with my tap water as it was. i locked out nuts, stunted growth hard at end of veg, and even well into flower. they never fully recovered, i just flushed last night them last night. will be chopping in a week or so. they are taking a little long from all the problems. trichs 25 75% clear cloudy, a little amber.

moral of story. if your tap ph is in decent range. mine was 6.8. a little high for my soil grow. just leave it alone. or at least dont fuck it up by over using ph down. i lost 75%+ all my fan leaves. the plants just couldnt get the energy they needed and my harvest is probably cut by at least 25% maybe more.

First grow here. and i have problems not sorted out yet does that help
1 of my rooms with my LST plant in it is struck haven to deal with 85-95 temps all day long. I am haven a hard time getting propper intake going in there. not that it matters outside is hotter then that. and i dont need to be running 6 AC's in my house lol. so i dont AC the room that the grow room is attached to (biggest room in house) So needless to say that plant is growing very slow and showing alot of stress. its been in those temps sense sprout just about.
I built a grow cabinet 2 weeks ago. 2 shelves, on the bottom floor i got my 2 main plants 17 inchs tall so far. 1 of them seems to be haven a Nitrogeon problem? not sure how to fix that yet. and im not really sure what the other ones problem is yet. i been looking but no luck. i had the LST plant on the second shelf for 2 weeks but my bottom plants got to tall and i needed to raise the lights up. so there was no room for said LST. Temps in the grow cabinet stay around 78-85 with 35-40% humidity. really i just want to get these 2 plants done. so i can get my LST back in there and get some clones off her and into my Hydro Tub i built for the next grow.
Oh yeah! There all in a MG soil. 1 MG potting soil. 1 MG organic Soil. 1 Mg potting soil Perlite 70/30 mix (lst plant)

yep learned alot from my 1st grow.. i ph'ed the water then added notes.... don't do that....LOL i started out with three 500wtt halogen lights, don't do that.....LOL i flowered with a 1000 watt mh don't do that, its not bad but HPS for flower is way noticeably better..... oh ya and i went to jail for the 1st 30 days of flower for driving while high..... DON'T DO THAT... the 1st c30 days of flower is the most important part of the flowering cycle...

My first grow was in the attic of my Dad's house. I rigged up a 50w HPS and even built a corona discharge ozone generator. I grew an afagan strain. It was super hot up there obviously and the plant looked sad most of the time at best. Then my grandmother moved into the room with the attic access! So i had to make excuses for her to leave the room so I could climb into the attic.
One day I forgot to move the foam that blocked the light from coming out around the access panel. My dad noticed the strange yellow light coming out looked at me and asked "What the fuck are you doing in the attic?".

Busted! I've got plenty more antics like that too, done many grows and fucked a lot of shit up.

I think it's important to stay humble because even the most experienced growers screw up from time to time.

this is true..we can get a bad batch of nutes or something we use during or grow that is beyond our controleand think it waz something we did wrong....

oh.. i have another one to add.. way way way before i ever started my own real grow, i tried to grow at home.. everyone was clued in except my dad... anyways.. i had a 500w halogen, a 75w hps, and a few floros.. all cramed into a tiny closet.. besides the fact the closet was too hot and the largest of the lights was wrong causing little to no growth, my dad found out in the worst way.. one day while i was out apparently the circut kept blowing and he couldnt figure out why.. well eventually he looked in my room and found out why.. it wasnt very fun when i got home that day... but thats all the more argument to waiting until you get your own place to grow... and know what your doing before hand.. LOL

we wern't growing my brother and i but we we sure getting stoned on the side of the house.. we were teenagers at thje time and mom and dad did not approve of smokeing marijuana.. well anyway mom busted use that day she was in tears tell dad got off work that knight at 11pm. she told him what happend, we laid there in our beds a listend to dad comeing down the hall.. well i got my ass beat with the belt as my younger brother took off out the window like superman...it was the funniest shit you whouldof ever seen , dad trying to grab his feet and me running out the beedroom doorand out the house...shit we stayed gone for 4 days..fuck we were afraid to go back and face pops.

i didnt do enough reading... far from enough... i had a grasp on the concept.. but was far from the knowledge i needed.. and for a long time i was to proud to look up my problems and ask for help... dont ask me why... i just was... really i guess that just pretained to the water schedule in the beginning and the mites until it was too late... everything else has been unfortunate accidents....

i grow indoors so i havent experienced any bug problems as it seems to be a big issue when growing outdoors.

bugs indoors suck.. mites are the fuckin worst... regionally i have to deal with them in the spring and fall... but i learned from the first attack by them and keep neem on hand now.. around september ill start spraying the girls weekly for prevention... got my dogs to watch the house... know what the hell im doing now.. and unless i end up with equipment failure again, i dont foresee anymore probs... **knock on wood**

dont get a grow partner...if you need one to grow, dont grow.

i tried a big op with a guy id known a long time and done quite a bit of legit business with(roofing, painting, ect). he didnt smoke or know anything about growing, but he owned several rental properties, some rented and some being worked on. long story short he second guessed my every move, half assed some shit while spending big money on unnecessay equip, let pumps fail and go unnoticed for days, and made what should have been 2-4lb harvests forever into two barely 1.5lb harvests that barely covered the investment.

i found out he was selling quarter bags from his house after the second harvest and just cut and ran. left my half of the gear and everything. thats scary shit, selling bags from youf crib when youve got 4000w at your other house. never even spoke to him again. i hope hes forgotten me by now.
