hike the Appalachian trail?

Reading a book about a couple rather unprepared fellows who hiked the apalachian trail (A walk in the woods). i'm kinda half way thinking of doing it all the way through. 2,100 miles from georgia to maine. Hmmmmmm. Wonder If I could carry enough hash to make it through? May have to have east coast RIU members smoke me out along the way!

Just a random fun thought and it would get me in great shape.

Good thread. My cousin did it after she graduated college. I believe it's ove 2,000 miles, no? I would love to do it someday.

While i agree in principal, it's a 6+ month hike. At some point i'ma want to lay up in a motel room, order a pizza and a porno and veg out for 24 hours.....lol.

ive been on the trail before... and its bassicly fuckin' kickass.. it brings you through some really cool natural landscapes the closer you get to canada... ill meet you up there in a pitstop for some boston smoke if you go through with it... just dont bring that chicken in your avatar.. or the warlord holding it.

Yes the AT is incredible. All along the way (at least from my knowledge all the way) along the trail, every 7 miles or so they have a permanent shelter for the hikers. Alot of these things are very nice and have running water and stuff. There is a really great community of AT hikers around the world. Every shelter has a notebook to sign or do whatever with and a take something leave something box. You will meet some great people doing this. I have a friend that did the damn thing barefoot, all the way. Oh yeah, and the tradition, especially if you are in it for the haul is to take on a "trail name".

About the hotels. It will be nice occasionally but they are hard to come by out in the National Forest although any shelter that is fairly close to civilization there will be lots of 'cards' from people offering rides or discount in the local restaurant......
