You can go 12/12 from seed man..its all prefrence.
The longer your veg, the more yeild your gona get

But honestly..your plants dont look all that healthy.
What have you been doing and whats your setup?

Also, not sure how long they have been going, but just wondering if they are ready.
far from ready as they are stretched to the max with only a few internodes which are bud sites if you 12/12 them now you wont yeild much at all.
lower the light and keep it on 24/0 and they will soon bush out and minimize stretch.
at least wait another 2 weeks in vegg to see what transpires.

i dunno about the whole starting over part.. :-?

the only way to deal and save those plants are to transplant them in to bigger pots and bury the stems with soil right up to the first set of leaves.
but your pots look quite big already but its the only way as those stems wont support much more growth on top before they fall over.

400 watt HPS....been on a 18-6 veg cycle.

They are 18-24 inches from the plants (something I read on THIS site).....

I have been using a 24-8-16 fertilizer once a week on them

Trust me, they don't look as bad as those photos are showing.

I had my 400w hps like 10 inches away from the tops. I dont think it matters as long as you can keep them cool and dont burn them

I was told by an agronomist that burying the stems up to the first set of leaves might not be a good idea. Anyone else had experience doing this? And what effect (good or bad) did it have on your plants?

So you agree him saying to start over is a bit drastic?

And does it matter if I re-pot them and bury the long stems all the way up to the first set of leaves?

i have done it several times with stretched seedlings and it works very well you sometimes get extra growth coming from the buried stem(more nodes).
its poolfroof.
