My very own noobtard mistake thread

why make a new thread every time i fuck up?

ok so i'm growing 2 lowryder's (#1) in a pc case. i'm pretty sure now that i planted them in flower pots that are too small. right now they are just 1 week old seedlings and here is the type of pot i'm using: http://www.elawngarden.com/dynamic-design-dynamic-design-plastic-planters-with-saucers-p-3283.html
so now i realize i should have went larger. but alas whats done is done. so my question here is should i just leave it as is and accept a smaller yield (i'm assuming that is the consequence) or should i transplant when the roots are strong enough. it is my understanding that any transplanting of lowryder plants is generally a bad idea so i'm at a loss. anyone have advice?

id transplant in about a week or two. actually i dont know how big the pot is so...

you have them in separate containers right?

yes. they are 6" diameter at the rim, 5" at the base, and 6" deep (well, 5 inches of soil)

well id get some more pots, because they need to be seperated soon. the roots will tangle, making it harder to separate later on, and they will fight each other for food and water.

i say get 2 1 gal pots atleast

no, they do each have their own pot.

would double potting be the least stressful for them?
keep in mind its a pc grow case so i'm limited to 8" diameter planters.

this is encouraging. yes part of me says to just count my losses and get whatever yield i can...i just have a bad feeling about transplanting. then again what about double potting to get some more rooting?

mistake???? if im growing in a 1/3 2 liter pop bottle i have to water twice a day....you water when it gets dry and if its a smaller pot it gets dryer faster....check out a few of the 12/12 from seed grows some of them have to water 4 times a day

im saying if you water on a set cycle, like once a day, then your gonna run into problems. water when dry and you wont

hehe thanks. yeah i won't overwater.
i'm concerned however that since the planter is shallow that it might end up drying out too much.
its generally advised to not water until its dry a couple of inches down, but in a planter this shallow thats
pretty dry. i've read that some people layer the top of their soil with hydroton rocks to keep moisture
closer to the surface. is this a viable option or just the ramblings of stupid internet people?

no it can be helpful to keep things wet

i did something similar when i had to put sand on top to keep gnats from laying eggs in my soil. it dried out reallll slow

although that was a very nice plant i don't want to do any drastic changes with the watering just yet.
