A simple watering question...

hi, i'm using 2L pots and my plants are about 8" tall... i normally water them every 3 or 4 days.

my question is:
how much water should i be giving them? should i just pour equally around the pot until water starts coming out the bottom or be giving them a set amount to help promote root growth? (if i give them less then the roots will have to travel to the water)

i'm not looking for a customised answer based upon my grow, just a general rule of thumb would be great! :D

thanks...

Rule of thumb, water until you get 10% runoff. Don't water again until the top inch of soil is relatively dry.

at times, not every time some of the plants leaves wilt slightly after watering... they soon pick up and return looking healthy within a few days. the only thing i can put this down to is over watering...

i follow the rule of watering them until i see water come out of the bottom of the plant pot... that's why i asked the question about the rule of watering.

the PH levels of the water are always around 6.6-6.8 so i can't see where i'm going wrong... suppose it really isn't a problem seeing as the plants return to health a day or so after... or is it???
