My first grow - take a look!

Hey guys! 1st post!

These are my babies, they're a few weeks old, started from seeds.

So, is it ok that they're laying on their sides a bit?

I'm using a crappy CFL bulb that I got from the grocery store.
Whats a slightly better, yet cheap alternative?

Also, when should I switch them out of the cups to full blown pots?

And is miracle gro cool for fert and nutes?

Thanks guys!

actually its not ok that their layin on their sides
- stems are way too thin(the light is too far away that its stretching as fast as it can to reach the light)
-do u have holes on the cups..

sorry ill take a more concentrated look at ur thread after i just had to mention this asap

as much light as u can get with 85F u need stronger stems to carry bud

first offf cfl are the same everywhere so just cuz u think urs is cheaper doesnt mean u have ineffective grow lights
u need about 200 watts (like 23=100w) or higher per 1 1/2plant

u need nutes after about 3 -4 weeks(4-5th nodes)
6.5 ph run off water

trust me dont ommit any one of these rules(except light watts varies)

goodluck

No. They are leaning because of how much they have stretched. The reason they have stretched so much is due to insufficient light, or the light being too far away. You can safely get CFLs within an inch of the plants without burning them, which will help prevent stretching.

For now, support them with something, and when you pot up into larger containers, bury the stem in the new soil.

The next best (and still cheap) alternative would be lots of crappy CFL bulbs, instead of just the one. You should aim for around of 50-60 watts per square foot of grow space (actual watts, not "equivalent")

They should be good for a while yet. You want a nice healthy rootball to be established before you pot up.

Miracle gro is like marmite. Some people love it, others hate it. My first ever grow was with miracle gro "feeds for 3 months" time-release soil. The plants looked great in veg, but showed many nute problems in flower that I was unable to correct. It got me through until harvest, but I soon changed to a standard soil and weed-specific nute combo, and haven't looked back since.

This is my only experience of MG products, so I can't comment on the rest of their stuff.

There are loads of choices for nutes and soil, and it will probably depend on where you live as to what is available to you. I live in the UK, and lots of products which are discussed in these forums are unavailable to me. Personally, I use a standard multipurpose compost, in conjunction with Biobizz nutes.

When to start giving nutes will depend largely on your soil. The soil I use feeds for 4 weeks, and since I pot up every 2-3 weeks in veg, I don't usually need to add nutes until a couple of weeks into flower.

UPDATE:

Alright so I figured i'd give my plants a little support until the stems strengthen up a bit:

is this cool?

they will eventually be strong enough to support themselves right?
