-Grow boxes is one thing... but what about a closet grow.... i obviously cant cut a hole in my closet door.... but then i sure as hell cant open the door... due to the fact that i might get hermies.. what do u do if ur growing in a closet?

Let's say you're growing in a 3' wide X 6' long X 6' high closet. 3' X 6' X 6' = 108 cubic feet. Now let's say you have a 300 cubic foot per minute (cfm) fan exhausting that room. That means you are going to be trying to suck 300 cubic feet out of the closet every minute, or that the fan will try to suck all of the air in the room (108 cubic feet) almost 3 times every minute.

Now, you should have an inlet to that room that will allow almost 300 cubic feet of air INTO the room to replace the air being sucked out of it. This means that yes, you should cut a hole in the door and stick a louvre over it or use an inlet fan. Many people neglect this fact, and just try to inlet through the crack under the door or something, then post complaining about how loud their fan is. The fan will strain if it doesn't have an adequate inlet, just like your lungs will strain trying to suck air out of a coke bottle with no hole in it.

ok yeah... makes sense... just trying to think though... if i cant get a grow box.. id have to use my closet... then ill have to cut holes for exhaust and intake... fuckin shitty shicken.... and theres no way i can do this grow in acloset without cutting holes for exhaust/intake and and inlet with a 400mh/hps is there...

the temps im guessing would go really high... but i live in canada... im not really sure.. it would be my first grow.

U just got to get a little creative. U know what it is supposed to do , u just got to figure out a way to do it.

Example: If it is a sliding closet door, get a strip of cardboard the length of your closet door. Tape one side of the cardboard to the sliding door. On the other side of the cardboard make like a 1 inch L bend the length of the door and attach some velcro tape to the length of the bend. Attach the other side of the velcro to the frame of the closet. Now youve got a nice seal.
You have essentially extended the closet door with cardboard. Now you can cut your hole in the cardboard.


Example 2: Hang some Black and white plastic(white side facing in the closet) to the inside of the closet. Use velcro tape down the length of the plastic and the length of the frame(similar to the cardboard). Cut your hole in the plastic.

Those are just a couple ideas right off the top of my head.

hmmm cool ideas.. never thought of something like that.. tho mine isnt sliding.. its hinged.. with 2 doors... they both open to the sides.. and close together.. if any ideas thatd be cool... ill try to think of somethin my self

What is the frame work like around your closet? Do you have attic space above your closet? What rooms border your closet? Do you own your home? These would be things to know. I have a couple tricks up my sleeve when it comes to cutting holes, and prefabbing them for cover ups. For example the hole in the top of my closet was cut to size for a round florescent fixture I already purchased. I own my home, but when I sell it you wont be able to tell I had a grow room or veg room (maybe a few plugs in odd places). My flowering room is a stick built addition to my prefab home, so I pull my intake from under the home where the air is cool. If I knew more about the closet I could give you some more ideas. Check out my Veg Room , its not the prettiest veg room, but when Im done with it you'll just see a closet with plugs.

I have in the past in your situation built a grow box inside the closet. So that you can open one side of the closet and still have a light sealed box INSIDE of that. Might only need to build one wall depending on how you have it.

And yes, you want to suck the air throug the light and not blow it. It's not that it doesn't work, it just doesn't work as well. When you suck air you are creating negative pressure in the lamp itself, so now instead of the heat being trapped in there it gets sucked out through the vaccuum. If you push it you create postive pressure and while the air does pass over the lamp and does get exchanged more of the hot air get's pressed into the glass. That hot air then heats the glass and the eventually the grow room. This is obviously the leymans terms for what's going on, but you get the idea. You want a vaccuum in there too.

Also, closet doors are cheap. Probably only cost you $50-$60 to replace the door when you move out. Not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

Yes show ppl EXACTLY what you're working with.. Post pics of the closet interior/exterior and let ppl know what is above it..
But umm regardless, you don't intend to let ANYBODY else in this bedroom while you're actively growing right?? Say "Right"..

ok.. the face of my closet is about 4 feet long 6.5 feet tall.... but thats just the face length/height outsidet he closet.... the frame i guess.. there is about 1 inch space all around the frame.. except for the floor.. their is like 2cm of space from the floor to the bottom of the closet doors... so inside of he actually closet is a big bigger... 4.5 feet long.. 2.5 feet deep and about 7 feet tall.

ill try to draw a diagram here in paint lol

You need to either leave it partially open, or get temporary doors you can chop up, or chop up the interior if that would even work..
Plain and simply no other way to pull it off..

i did grow in a closet in a RENTED apartment few years back. needed to vent, so i went to home depot and bought the cheapest door they had at the same dimensions. didnt need doorknob i already had the original(didnt need to cut that 2 pieces). wasnt much money at all and i could cut away.

so is there an attic space or any space above the closet? you can take those doors out and build a wall/single door. Then put the vents on the wall side.

rabidcow has the best plan, seriously.. But you can close the door in the dark period, its just that HID lighting tends to knock you over with photonic power at EXTREMELY obvious colors!! Cops can detect a small light leak at the window lickity split, and thats their warrant right there.. Pretty obvious to everyone else too for that matter..
Answer two questions.. What do you already have, and how much more can/will you spend??

hmmm... i also am renting.. so the buy a new door is the best idea. then i can have my way with her ;)

yea im handy... isnt hard to measure and cut holes... basic high school shop class.

i would have the fans as you have them unless your supplementing with co2...then i would vent the light not the whole growbox

Be careful though, lest you need to buy more than one..:)
Or if you aren't a psycho, and realize you need to keep that 'rrom' secure, a door can be makeshifted..
