Thats right and its a air coolable hood.
what you mean by an air coolable? does it cool on its own?

does this mean it will take less electricity or still the same amount?

when i start growing, how far do i keep the light away from the soil, every 2-4 inches ?

damn i didn't think that would exist. well i added it to my to buy list. this whole thread was pretty much about picking out my lights to purchase but also understanding what is the right one to get and why. thanks a lot dood. i will give you some rep.

It will be the same amount of watts used. What i mean by air coolable is that you can add fans with ducting to cool the heat caused from your light and keep that seperate from your grow. The air coolable hood comes with tempered glass so you have to push the air out so it wont be too hot and blow the bulb.

i also been thinking of purchasing maybe 1 or 2 along with the package = HTG Supply 400w HPS Bulb - +$15.95 which provides blue spectrum and might be better than the standard that it comes with. but i might use the standard one first.

for just two plants couldnt you get a couple 100 watt cfls? would be cheaper and cooler. even if you go with the tube type it would still be cooler. Still a total newb myself so just throwing out a question, not a suggestion.

when i start. during vegging how far do i keep the light ? and then during flowering how long do i keep it alway. prob gonna do 4-5 plants
depending on ythe wattage of your light you can start a 400 watt at about a foot half that size with a air coolable hood.If anything just put the back of your hand on between the tops of your plants and your hps and if its too hot for your hand its too hpt for your plants.

hey dude i would suggest doing hydroponics.. its easier then dirt for a first timer... also i bought and grew threw HUGE plants under a 150 watt hps... but two came out male and so i flowered the last female under the same 150 watt hps and harvested 3/4 oz because i choped prematurely.... i suggest going hydro... youll save alot of money because you wont need to buy any soil
