hi. i'm new to growing. trying to get my equipment set /and order before monday (on sunday) i'm wondering if i should use a HPS to grow one plant inside my room which will be inside a hydroponic tent. any ideas? on certain wattage i should look foward to getting for 1 plant? with possibility of adding a 2nd one max. does it require a ballast?

htg supply has the best prices for lights imo.But if you dont have the money for a 250 get the 150 you can always upgrade later.

400 watt would be more than enough for 2 plants and you also have to worry about heat using a hps the bigger the light the more money you have to spend to ventilate.
does a ballast do the ventilating? or i will just buy a small fan and let that do the job. this is an apartment building aka (my room)

a digital ballast is supposed to stay cool but a magnetic runs hot so yeah get a couple of small fans for circulation and one for exhausting the heat from your light and you should be fine.

how comfortable would a 400watt inside a tent feel inside someones room ? maybe i should get less wattage eh ? after all its for like 2 plants max.

I have a 400 watt hps in a homebox in my bedroom.I have 2 exhaust fans(1 for the room and one for the light)and 1 intake fan.I sleep just fine at night. But since you are doing 1 or 2 plants then you should look at a 250 or 150 hps.

can you tell how much electricity or how much more it will cost on the bill to run a hps if i was to find the kwh ?

Nothing less then 400 watts for premo bud. The great Remo of AV Nutrients mentioned nothing less then 400 watters for good bud.....You don't want to grow one plant at a time. You should grow at least 3 to 6 depending on size. That way you don't have to have a continue grow with all the upkeep and electricity. One plant can have problems and if it goes bad your out of luck....3 or more gives you room for error. People dont grow veggies and herbs one at a time for the same reason....It's nature...

I would say anywhere from 25 dollars to 40 extra.
how much more would it cost for a 400watt hps like in bill wise. you said a 250 one will cost 80 bucks then would a 400 be like 140 bucks? and i guess since the people above your post said to grow at least 4 plants and 400watt is the minimum in order to get premium bud?. is it ok to put 4 different plants together? because i have 14 seeds and they are all different types.

if i get a 350w instead of a 400w would that decrease the bill slighty or by 20 bucks less or something like that?

It will decrease the bill a little using 350 watts. a 400 will grow 4 to6 plants comfortable and it will add more money to the bill slightly .I would say get a 250 if you r on a budget and want to save on energy with a decent harvest.

but if i do 250watts it won't make the buds that big as it would using a 400watts right? anyways as a beginner maybe i should experience 250watts and maybe i can always upgrade to 350watts for the last 2 months of harvest ?

is it safe to grow 3 different types of plants in one room ?
