Lowryder2 journal - Germany

Hi guys,

Well here I am at the very beginning of my journal. My seeds arrived today: 5x feminized Lowryder2. They're currently sleeping happily in my fridge in darkness and in an airtight container. I have my pot (pun intended) ready (6.5l). I've bought my soil "Compo Sana" flowering soil (Blumenerde in German) composed of the following:

300 mg/l N Stickstoff (CaCl2)
360 mg/l P2O5 Phosphat (CAL)
420 mg/l K2O Kaliumoxid (CAL)

Top to bottom that's Nitrogen, Phosphate, Potassium Oxide + the usual small nutrients.

I've read very posive recommendations for this soil all over for growing so I'm quite confident of my choice. By all means feel free chip in on your thoughts on this.

I have my lighting. 1X200w cfl @ 2700K chucking out 15,000 lumens.

I'm currently building my grow cabinet (pics will follow when complete). It will be just a simple wooden frame with hardboard sides. One side of the hardboard is white and of course these sides will be facing in. Gaps will be duct taped to prevent light ingress so hopefully no chance of inducing a hermie and for airtightness to aid air current between air intake and air outtake. It will be 50*50cm and the height, I'm thinking, will be the height of the pot + plant (22 inches) + 10 inch tolerance for spacing to the light + space for the lighting. I'm planing for an exhaust vent top side and and inlet vent bottom side and will build my own carbon filter.

I haven't decided yet on the nutrients, a bit more research required on my part but the first week will be water only (planning on using distilled or rainwater throughout).

For autoflowering I believe I can use 2700k from start to finish. I will sprout on the windowsill under plastic and move in to the box when an inch tall. For the first week I will have two 25w daylights to aid my plant in that first week and will not keep the big CFL too close. From the second week I will lower the big light as close as possible.

Planning on growing a single plant (I'm not a big toker) but wondering if I should grow 2.

Well... that's it for now.

Wish me luck!

Can anybody recommend any German brand nutes for Lowryder2?

what is the difference between NPK 5-10-5 and 1-2-1 since I assumed these were ratios they must be the same right?

I now have my 1.5 inch seedling under my 200w CFL 2700K light.

Despite my worries about the tap root taking a dive above the surface it's found it's way down. I was a little worried about this and reported the problem in the "problem" thread

https://www.rollitup.org/marijuana-plant-problems/207981-tap-root-growing-up-through.html

I can't quite believe how well it's doing after such a short time.

I have complete the base of my grow box. A simple frame structure to hold the main light. I have two smaller 20w 2700K CFLs which I intend to use on the sides later when it gets a bit bigger. I don't have the main light to close at this early stage.

I have a small fan blowing over the seedling and it's vibrating ever so slightly. This is supposed to strengthen the plant and I assume this is working since the stem seems quite thick for a seedling..

I intend to complete the grow box sometime his week. I'm going to build a box cover made of 2 mm thin hard board (white on the inside) which I will be able to simply place over the main frame and remove when necessary. I'm using 18-6 lighting regime and until I build the cover I'm the room will be in total darkness for the 6 hour period.

I gave a nute water today at half strength and intend to up this to full strength sometime at some later watering to be determined.

I tested the PH of my nute water and it's very slightly acidic so I will take a PH measurement of the soil at the end of the week and may have to PH up my feed in future depending on the result.

We live and learn. I killed my first plant

Anyway... I have 5 Lowryder fem. seeds in total. Killed my first. Gave one to a friend for a balcony grow. Two stored away.

POST MORTEM. I loved her to DEATH. Yep... I was completely paranoid. Worried whether she was getting too much water or too little. I believe also I should not have added ANY nutes (event at 50% concentration). She basically stopped growing. I could have carried on and hoped for the best but since I was so short into the grow period I thought I'd abandon it (due to lack of space for 2). I removed the plant and examined the tap root. It was about 3 inches long but lacked any side roots or root hairs. I dumped out the soil and squeezed it. A lot more water came out than I was expecting. Make your own conclusion (again it's my private journal and I have absolutely no probs. with any of you folks making whatever comments you wish). Incidentally the soil out of the bag is pretty damned moist to start with so probably added to my problem.

So.... TAKE 2.

This time I decide NOT to germinate using just water or the paper towel method. I just planted the seed 1 cm below the soil in a cup. 2 days later I had a sprout. All done on the windowsill. Today she is a seedling. She has a much thicker stem and I'm thinking that this is down to just planting the seed. Just a cap full of distilled water a day.

Today she was transplanted into to 6 liter container (water with a couple of caps of water - no sense in soaking the whole pot I think since the tap root's probably only a couple of inches long) and I hovered the 200w CFL 7 inches above.

I think she transplanted well. I kept her at and angle to see whether she readjusted to the light and straighten up. This she did. Hopefully a sign of good things to come and not death throes.

Don't forget its a Lowryder. I don't intend to feed for 2 weeks. I figure as she stretches her roots into those unexplred areas of the soil she will find the new nutes that she needs. This time I will be VERY stingey with the watering and keep an eye out for any signs of underwatering.

Not sure about the difference between the symptoms of underwatering compared to those of overwatering since they appear, from reading here, to be similar. Any thoughts on this?. Like me mam says - it's easier to recover from underwatering than from overwatering so I will be less keen this time to water.

Fingers crossed. Again.

Seedling pic update. Have been marking growth span of first leaf set. About 4mm/day.

2nd leaf set now much bigger.

Can I assume that the growth will accelerate (as he surface area of the leaves increases?)

Thanks DWR. Looking forward to seeing what happens next week. Don't forget it's a LR2 so not worth cloning.

G'day DWR,

No nutes so far since only day 10. Will probably start after the cotyledons die or drop off. Probably week three. Not sure about the curly leaves. They seem to curl just after watering but always straighten out by the end of the first light period. This pic was taken just after her night's sleep so she's lookin a bit drowsy I guess. It's not hot at all. Keeping temps at about 25degs.

cool, had some seeds that grew like that cuz of the light.... was a little to strong for em... the big bang that was.... yeah....;)

Yup, i have changed my mind about nutes now... i start nuting my plants on day 4 with roots stimulator.... then i add a drop of super vit :) why not i think... and then a drop of some vegi nutes.. feed em that in 5 litres water....

like the el nino i am fed her nutes on day 6, i allready cloned 6 branches of her in just 12 days or so... pretty neat.... :)

anyways.. cheers yo, will b watching this with my m8... he's gona try the lowryder for his balcony. still lives at home and cant realy grow that big.. :)

so yeah he tought the lowryder would be a cool start.. :blsmoke:

I think I've got time to experiment with the distance but I don't wanna put it too far away.

Just make sure your mate doesn't get the original Lowryder. He'll get a better yield off of the number 2 or the AK47 cross.

Hiya DWR,

Did you measure the the PH of the Hesi feed mixed with neutral water (at the recommended dosage?

Plant still growing and the single fan and 3-fans are starting to branch out and I can see the 5-fan starting to pop up (pretty tiny though).

I came across a cactus feed today. It's 4-7-7. Do you think this will be OK for flowering? Not sure weather to use this or the Hesi (which I can get at the local head shop). The Hesi seems to have a "PH corrector" although I'm not sure what this means.
