Planning my first grow. A few questions.

Hello all, I'm planning for my first grow. Obviously in order to grow, you need a good place for your plants to call home. I'm pretty tight on money so I'm trying to be creative. The idea I have right now is to use the area in my computer desk mean to house my PC tower. It's 2' tall, 11" wide, and 2'1" deep. I'm sure I can get a strain that grows short, and not so wide as to still harvest a decent amount with limited space. And I feel with it being as deep as it is I could get a couple plants going for an even better harvest. This is a picture of the cabinet, so we'll start here. Input anyone?

Thanks,
Your fellow smoker.

looks good. you may need to cut 2 circular holes and get 2 small cheap fans for air circulation and heat exaust

3 small plants could fit in there and have 8"x11" each, which would work fine. I think it would be cheapest to grow in dirt under floros which would be a good option with that space.

Awesome, this is all good news. Also, I do plan to cut holes for exhaust and intake, and whatever else modifications will need to be done.

What type of cfl's should I look for? Any certain wattage or color for the three plant set up, also, how many do you think I would need to accommodate the plants needs fully?

Try to find Daylight (6700K) for veg and Warm White (2700K) for flowering.

Four or five CFL's of a decent wattage (26+) should give you plenty of light.

If you line the walls and ceiling of the cabinet with mylar you should have stupendous light coverage.

I hear Lowryder grows super short, might be a good strain for your cab.

Good luck. :hump:

Smell isn't really an issue, I live with two friends in our own place. I decided it was only fair to let them know what was going on, plus we're all regular smokers. Also, I've seen people use windshield reflectors for covering the walls. Is this actually a good reflector. If not, where the hell can I find mylar lol? I also plan to use PC fans, 80mm. I would imagine two should be enough, an intake and an exhaust. If I'm wrong though, tell me, lol.

not sure about the mylar. the pc fans should work great. you will need this for the lights anyway but i suggest buying the bell shaped reflectors with the socket for the light, they can be bought at home depot, really cheap and works well

Lol, I actually read your entire thread including all the replies before I made my post. It had quite a bit to offer.

Haha sweet, that means you learned just as much as I did. Might be a little more tricky working with something like that wood desk though. Gonna have to do some drilling and cutting for the fans and lights. Gonna get sawdust all through that carpet... lmao. I'm sure it'll work out fine for ya, I'm subscribed, I wanna see how it turns out, since you're stealing my ideas I wan't some of yours :P

Okay, so tomorrow I am going to Lowes and Home Depot after work to look for lights. I'm thinking I'm going to go with six or more lights at least. I will probably Just make them plug straight into a power strip mounted inside the cabinet. Also, the cabinet has a rectangular shaped cutout in the bottom for what should be PC cords. I am thinking about making both the case fans exhaust as to leave the cutout for a passive intake. I will probably place a slanted surface of some sort on the outside towards the ground to eliminate light exchange between my room and the inside of the cabinet. I also think I will get a tubing of some sort to connect the fans into a carbon filter somewhere in the back behind the desk. Oh, and one last thing, who knows what kind of store might sell mylar, I feel like I'm going to have trouble finding it.

Feedback? :D

Although smell isn't a big issue, isn't that the point of the carbon filter? To eliminate the odor? Well I'm off to work, I'll check back when I get off before I go to pick anything up.
Also, if I go with the daylight 6700K for veg, and warm white 2700K for flowering, will I need six or more of both to accommodate the need of three plants?

I'd still like some feedback on my last post if anyone has something to say. (:

Yeah get 5 or 6 of each kind of bulb, make sure they're a decent wattage too (26+).

And that's the TRUE wattage, not the incandescent equivalent. Don't be confused, it'll say the true watts on there.

Only need 5-6 fixtures though, just switch out the bulbs. :hump:

I'm in mid production of my box! I'll have pictures up soon, all seems to be going well so far. I still am not sure on how to power my 80mm PC case fans, so if someone could point me in the right direction for that I'd appreciate it. Also, I still need to line my cabinet with mylar, if I'm ever to find any! >:|
